like the subject: if some certain guy with the IQ of a brick-wall (and others you might choose in the settings of this module) tries to enter the server, he/she/it will be blocked and the admin notified via email to the address in the game settings.

Have fun and report bugs.

PS: He visited me today so I decided to make him work a bit more.

You know that your certain guy is going to just use a new email address, don't you?

I would LOVE to see this as not a blocker, but just an "alert the admin" that he has arrived. Any chance of that setting, oh wonderful Nightborn?  Grin

Ooh! The mind just cries out the possibilities if the "Alert the Admin" function is included.

It alerts you via mail. That nerd tried to hop in again, was automatically blocked, I got a mail and banned the IP.

So well. =) it worked perfectly.

Yes, he *may* make new emails, right, but then I will track him down as I did before, add the new mail address and so on.
You cannot make this foolproof, also, why an "alert-only" ? you want to monitor his activity? He is not worth this effort.

If you want to have it as an "alert-only", well, give me 5 mins to add this as a setting.

To tell you the truth I have no interest in monitoring him =P

But the reason blocking is no use is that people change their email straight away. If you have it alert you, he won't know that the blocker found him. By then, you have the IP address and the ID.

We have always found that alerts work better than a block for things like this - because they don't realise they are about to be caught and so they don't try so hard to hide. If they know where the limits are (like, if they understand cookies) then they cheat. If they don't know, then we can catch them.

I will be writing some anti-cheat modules at some point when I begin allowing gem transfer. Same-IP and same-ID transfers won't be blocked - they will merely trigger unfortunate forest events to happen much more often. Imagine that you cheated, and then you kept dying from bad "luck" in the forest, so you decided that the game sucked? You'd probably leave by your own choice. Just the way I want it. =)

For users, well, yes (see my multichecker module, with self-referral listing)

But for Brenny, he hops in and does damage right away...
btw, I *have* his IP too, you get it mailed.

See:

Dear Admin, unfortunately somebody with a blocked email tried to register. Here are all the details you need:
IP: 72.8.109.226
Name: 'TheDestroyer'
email: 'dumbledorehpo@hotmail.co.uk'
Time: 2007-01-12 12:10:01

this nice email I got after his try, and blocked his IP on .htaccess level.

Where is the harm here? He can't get in, needs to create a new one, and well...

BTW:
v1.1
now with a centrally pulled email register... that n00bs emails will be pulled from a repository Wink no need to bother with it anymore.
