I find it rather chaotic at times. It is not always easy to find what you are looking for.
I believe it needs a better system.

I've made comments in the past about improving the shared file feature for users once the updated forum/portal code is released (it's coming sooner or later), but even then, I have my doubts as to how effective it will be in aiding people through the massive selection of modules now available.

I may start a new download section containing 'stable' modules which are posted once their authors submit them for that purpose.

If anybody else has suggestions for handling these, submit them here.  Remember that the final solution must not be labour intensive, must be secure and that project trackers like gforge and Manta have already been discarded as possibilities.

When I said not labour intensive, I meant to actually maintain and keep up to date.  I'd prefer not to have to be involved with every file upload.

I don't know about anybody else, but I'm not about to code something for this portal version when the next version is due out sometime soon-ish.  I know I've been saying that for a while now, but like any other volunteer based free software project, there's no such things as deadlines or written in stone release dates.

Probably the hardest aspect is to compile, as automatically as possible, a coherent list of all modules available giving the authors the ability to upload/change their files and modify the mod's descriptions.

The second hardest aspect is getting everyone to keep up to date.

Security is obviously an issue.  Anybody uploading/changing, except for admins, must not be able to affect any other user's files or descriptions.

Even a list of modules maintained as a page would be efficient.  Unfortunately I've said this before, and asked for volunteers to do this before, but you'll notice that there is no such page.

Is it (for the moment) possible to add a link from a user's profile to their shared files folder? That would be helpful while browsing the forum... Smiley

well, lonny's checkversion keeps track of module versions and what modules belong to an author, you could try and build from that.

and what's up with this applaud/smite stuff?  I just applauded XChrisX for his suggestion, because i have thought the same thing!
