I am totally curious, as I have never been thru an upgrade before....what all is involved in an upgrade?  I started with 1.0.6 and have stayed with it.

Do you lose any of your prefs and stuff when you upgrade?

Do you end up with modules that don't work anymore?

I'm sincerely curious about this, as I said, I have never been thru an upgrade.

I've split this post (although I could have deleted it) as it had nothing to do with the thread in which it was made.  If you have a question or comment not directly related to a thread, don't highjack the thread.

You should read the README.TXT file which is included in the source code archive.  Copy all files into your site, run installer.php.  You won't lose any preferences, although depending on the upgrade you might find that some of your modules don't work properly.

That's why you do your first upgrade tests on a test server, not your live server.

It may be possible between some versions, but it is not recommend and not supported.  Why would you want to roll back?

Remember the first rule of hosting - test everything on a test server before going live.  You should decide there whether or not you want to upgrade.

What about Upgrading the Server, but also changing the host, AND keeping all the prefs

The host changing shouldn't make a difference... Should it? I don't actually know as I've never done it before but surely it wouldn't make a difference...

CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG. But I never am...
