* XChrisX shakes his head...

If you install and activate modules and don't know what they'll do, you can be 100% sure that something like this is going to happen!

* Talisman suggests that using this forum's SEARCH function might lead to an answer.

It's all about reading directions...

ye set the server info to do this in thy grotto.

dost ye remember going into the grotto and simply clicking on things willy-nilly?  ye need to read the screens that ye are clicking on.  they will give ye a clue to what the function does.

search the forum for the answer ye need. ye are not the first who has done this to their server.

No need for us to look.

I have installed all the modules I could find

Congratulations.  Did you bother to read what the modules you installed do?  I'm betting not.  Anybody care to bet against me?  Didn't think so!

And now I've broken things

Yep, that's what will happen.

The first thing you need to learn is to understand what anything you install is going to do to your game.  BEFORE YOU INSTALL IT.

The next thing you need to learn is to use this forum's SEARCH FUNCTION.  Your particular problem has been posted and answered many times.  We won't bother answering it again.

If you can't do those previous two things, then I recommend you delete your LoGD files.

installing all the modules is a very very bad idea.   Undecided

first it will overwhelm the players.

second, not all the modules work as intended and may need additional coding in order for them to work properly.  a number of them will break the game if ye don't know how to code.  that is why it is best to install one at a time.  play test it for a few days, then install another.  learn how they interact with the core code.

Also, adding hundreds of modules will slow the site down a lot.

Actually, I thought this might help.  It's a reference list of all the times someone has asked this question without using the search engine.  I 100% guarantee that the answer is in one of these locations!

You should definately read the following pages. The first is essential, the second a general overview over all core modules.

I will be adding your post to the list so that it can be referenced by future administrators.

In all fairness, it was me who created the thread name. This poster jammed his request into a completely unrelated thread about a Stage 8 install issue, so I split it.

But I think it's fairly accurate.

Anyone installing either the entire 1.0.6 set, or more than 300 modules overall, is going to see a familiar scenario - even if they know what they're doing, players will be so overwhelmed by all the links everywhere that they'll play for a little while and then leave in frustration.

Well...that blows my clever post out of the water then, doesn't it!   Grin

DaveS's post, however, is still bang on the money.

I also say that DaveS post is on the money. Follow his advice.

I know exactly what the problem is. Unfortunately, I will not help.

I also love how he posted a selection and didn't just post the answer. Kudos. Lazy people need to be forced to make an effort.
