Since people ask fairly often, and since the threads are buried somewhere in other boards, I thought it would help others if some of us can post the hosts where we KNOW that LoGD will run.

Two that I know work are:

http://phpnet.us/ gives you a site like http://yourchosenname.phpnet.us/ recommended for your own personal beta testing ONLY

http://freehostia.com/ this one does not let you choose your username (url) - it will use the first three letters of your first name and the first three letters of your surname. For instance if I start an account using my real name, I will be given http://shabro.freehostia.com/ so you might want to keep this in mind when you sign up.

Free hosts might have restrictions and obligations that the admin has to consider. These may not be suitable once your install gets enough players, or if you have a lot of modules or a lot of game days, or is otherwise busy. You may also not be allowed to advertise on your install.

Do people have others that they would like to share?

Please don't post a bunch of free sites turned up by Google that say PHP will run. Please only post if you have actually set up LoGD on them successfully or seen a LoGD server running on one and know that it's a free account (most free hosts stay afloat by selling upgrades, and servers on "free" servers may actually have paid to keep their install there).

Once you start to pull any type of bandwidth from these free hosts they will shut you down pronto so keep that in mind. Smiley

I used to use 5gigs

You get to pick a sub-domain name or they can host a domain for you.

I don't think I'm crazy to expect that there must be free hosts that will not fall over with say, 3 users online at a time.

I'm using phpnet.us right now for a new game I'm creating, and the page loads are still fast... I'll keep you posted on how it goes once there are a few users on at once.

I don't know...I had some problems with that one when trying to get mine up...it didn't like me uploading more than a handful of modules, and didn't like me uploading much, actually...

http://addyour.net

    *  500 megabytes of space
    * 5 GB monthly transfer
    * 5 MySQL databases
    * 2 e-mail accounts
    * FTP access
    * cPanel
    * Fantastico DeLuxe (new)

I running a Mambo site, but I sure LOTGD would run fine. It has a little downtime every once and a while, but what do you except for a free site. ..AND no ads on the site, just in the admin cPanel... Not Bad!  Cool

Well, I did set one up, with modules n all. It worked fine, except it seemed to have disappeared now, after 3 days. It gets directed to a http://www.phpnet.us/closed.php page, which probably means it got shut down. Max users online at any one time is 3. Most of the time, its just one tho... ><

Quote from: phpnet.us terms
Misuse Of Resources

Including but not limited to employing applications which consume excessive CPU time. Chat/IRC, and web proxy scripts are not allowed on our network under any circumstances. CGI based message forums which use flat file databases are often found to use excessive system resources. If intend to run a high traffic CGI based message board please check with us. If your hosting account utilizes excessive resources ( more than 1% of free hosting accounts and more than 5% for pro hosting accounts) then we may contact you regards a solution.
If you are unsure about content you intend to place on our network, please check with us before you do. We reserve the right to determine what constitutes acceptable use. We may amend these terms of service with or without notice.

A few pages above it is said that the usage of chat software may lead to instant temination of your account.

Considering this and the rest of the terms, I'd say that phpnet.us does not allow broswer games to be run on their servers.

Wow. Mine is still sitting there. I am a bit surprised they didn't contact you first. Well, I guess we can keep looking to get other free hosts in the "list".
