Module Name:  Core Modification
Category:  Administrative
Worktitle:  coremodify
Version:  3.0
Author:  DaveS
Date: June 25, 2006

Description:
A very quick and easy little module.  If you've modified the core programs, this module helps you to identify which ones you've changed.  It adds a couple of lines on the "Module Info Page".  The default looks like this:

The following core modules have been modified. Please contact the site administrator if you wish copies or to review the modifications:
commentary.php, motd.php
WARNINGS:
1.  Core modifications are not supported, so you shouldn't modify core unless you know what you're doing. However, if you do, consider using this module to clarify which ones you've changed.
2.  I defaulted the two modules I did because many people modify commentary to change the posting limits and others remove the commentary in motd. Please remember, those parts of the core are there for a reason, so if you modified them, you should know your reasoning. Smiley

PS: Does this module seem necessary? useful? Does it help comply with the CCL?  Please let me know.

in fact, something like this was meant for core inclusion...yet no module, but a checksum checker Wink

who tracks what files you have changed...and displays it if you want it or not.

Well, until someone can do that (I know I don't have the skills to do something like that) we can all use this one! Smiley

I know I'll use it.  Thanks, Dave. Smiley

Sorta off topic, but I've always wondered why you always start with Version #3.0 with all your modules?  Just curious. Wink

It started when Lonny told me about vertxtloc... I hadn't been using it initially so I updated all my modules to reflect that they were ready to use vertxtloc.  I did a clean sweep and started everything at 3.0.

Well, as you know, that program doesn't work anymore with the new module system. Now it's a matter of old habits being hard to break. Smiley
