interesting idea. however, a couple thoughts come to mind.

how much bandwidth will this use per song? could it choke a site hosted on a free webhost?

also, i have to wonder if the RIAA will have an issue with copyrighted music being played without their permission on a website.  they might ask the site admin to pay a fee to play music, much like bars, event venues and online radio stations have to.

Hmm. That would depend on the individual songs I guess. Maybe a semi-balance would be having this set as a lodge module? I am not sure about the RIAA part..

VERSION 1.2!
  • A pref that allows only certain users to be able to have a song in their bio.. (Reduces bandwith and possible to use as a donation reward.)
  • Cleaner script and formatting.

Updated the zip file. Feedback is great  Smiley

Just thought I'd let it be known, that although it's neat that you can choose who gets to upload music on a user by user basis - those who are not enabled to add music to their bios, cannot see the music - period.

That's because of

Code:
if ($allow == 1){
            if ($song > "" && $artist > "" && $link > ""){
                output("`^");
                        rawoutput("<CENTER><embed src='".$link."' loop=true height='25px'><BR>Song Name:");
                        output("%s`^",$song);
                        rawoutput("<BR>Song by: ");
                        output("%s`^",$artist);
                        rawoutput("</CENTER><BR><BR>");
            }
        }
So if the players pref is set to not allow and they try to view anothers bio it wont let them.

Code Added
Code:
$char = httpget('char');
                $sql = "SELECT * FROM ". db_prefix("accounts") ." WHERE acctid='".$char."'";
                $res = db_query($sql);
                $row = mysql_fetch_assoc($res);
                $id = $row['acctid'];

                if (get_module_pref("allow","biomusic",$id)){
                output("`^");
                        rawoutput("<CENTER><embed src='".$link."' loop=true height='25px'><BR>Song Name:");
                        output("%s`^",$song);
                        rawoutput("<BR>Song by: ");
                        output("%s`^",$artist);
                        rawoutput("</CENTER><BR><BR>");
                        }
This shows the music in others bio even if you are not allowed to have one yourself.

File Attached.

Hehe.. My bad.. I knew this happened, but forgot to reattach the fixed version. Again.. My bad. Smiley

I am developing a new version of this, which will give players a better reign of how their music can be used.

Fine module, but unfortunately I will not use it.
In Germany there is an authority, name the GEMA
If I use it I have to eventually pay for it. Respectively. if we are not careful and the user to play music there, including Robbie Williams, etc. then you can punish incurring heavy.

Sorry, I don't mean to grave dig here.

However after installing this module, It seems players have "Two Media Players" on their bios.

I checked over the code, and saw no re-runs of code suggesting this. I was wondering if there was a fix or an updated version I am not seeing. (Using Brendan's Updated version.)

LOL! Wow! Grave digging indeed.. I did not even remember THIS version of it xD

Do you mean you have two songs playing simultaneously?

You could always update to a more recent one I have, as an alternative method.. It allows people to get a playlist embed code and then embed that playlist through a lodge function.

I was using Brendans minor fixes version so players could see other's songs without me manually having to go into the UE and allow it. However it seemed to create two players within the bio page! I uninstalled that and installed your last updated one (from this thread anyways.) and it removed the second player, but I still have to manually allow players to see or use them.

Any chance you'd be willing to let me use your newest version? This is already a big hit on my server haha!

Edit: I fixed the problem - It seems this module disliked me using Google Chrome and my extensions - I added a small line of code to allow it access. Hope you don't mind.

This is the code which should be added to line 44. See below -
Code:
type='audio/mpeg

Code:
rawoutput("<CENTER><embed src='".$link."' loop=true height='25px' type='audio/mpeg'><BR>Song Name:");

This is line 44 - For those who are not using an decent editor Wink

^ This should allow all browsers to upload mpeg audio files should you be using something other than quicktime media.

Sure thing.. This should be more popular with your players then xD

REMEMBER: Uninstall the originall fully, before you install this version.
