Ok, so I'm new to MySQL and PHP and basically am like a child right now, as I know nothing. I had a friend help me create a site and am slowly making adjustments to it. I'm looking for anyone interested in helping me. It's a Doctor Who themed RPG. I don't really have much done to the site right now. I'd just even appreciate any help or feedback.

Running a site without knowledge of PHP, or MySQL can be rather dangerous. It can be a good learning experience, in the long run.

Just be careful of who you accept as staff, and what flags you give them as a lot of damage can be done from the inside believe it or not. Not everyone can do as they say they can Wink

Some good tips for learning, read the various tuts posted within the forum, and study up on some PHP basics to help you diagnose errors in the future. When looking for modules, make sure you placing stable ones within your directory. I guess, keeping a log like I do is a good idea as well. Date and time what you installed, and what category it belongs to. Administrative, General, etc. This includes code changes! It'll save you later, trust me.

Since you don't know what you're doing as of yet, DO NOT mess with the core..that's a sure fire way to blow something up.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on just accepting the first person to offer's help. I've been reading some basics on PHP and MySQL, but there's only so much I can do at a time. I've already added some mods, and they seem to be working out so far. I'm gonna try my hand at writing a few as well, as there are somethings I'd like to do, but can't find mods for. All in good time, I guess. Thanks for the feedback though!  Smiley

Also, I just want to say, I'm not retarded. I read the newbie survival thing. I'm not asking for anyone to just hand this to me. I know starting a site while not knowing much wasn't smart, but I learn better under pressure and by making mistakes. I'm going to do the homework and attempt to ask educated questions, but I can't promise that will always happen. Haha.

No one is saying you are retarded Wink. It's just we have seen SOOOO many posts just like yours over the years from new admins who HAVEN'T done their homework. They then add people they don't know because they wanted the help then wonder how their site got hijacked. What Crims posted is pretty much the standard post for the type of request you made, it's nothing personal Smiley

Oh, I wasn't taking it personal. I just wanted everyone to know that I'm totally willing to learn. I read the starter thing and I can understand how everyone can get mad when newbs come on and just expect things to be handed to them. I appreciate any and all feedback, whether it's negative or positive. I won't learn otherwise.  Smiley

One, I'd be more then willing to help! Two, you do know that Doctor Who is copyrighted to BBC, I hope? I tried to start a Dr Who RPG, but I was told I wasn't allowed to due to the copyright.

Uh, I didn't know that. Probably should've checked that first.  Lips Sealed There are always ways around that though. There has to be. There's Harry Potter and Hunger Games RPGs and those are copyrighted, no? I can always just imply it. =/

Harry Potter and THG aren't copyrighted as Dr Who is, I believe (though someone is more than welcome to correct me if I'm wrong).

Hm. Well, another noob mistake I guess. I'm looking into it now. (Though I'm pretty sure HP is copyrighted.)

Harry Potter doesn't matter here, only Dr Who does. The official BBC questionnaire to Dr Who copyright is here, and take note:

Quote
I am doing a school project/case study on Doctor Who, can I use copyright material?

If the material is only going to be used within your work and available only to you or an examiner, then yes, you may. If the work is to be displayed, performed or distributed in any way, for commercial or non-commercial purposes, then this would be a breach of copyright.

NOTE: I'm not doing this to be an A/H or anything; I'm doing it to save you from copyright laws and such.

Oh. I know. I looked into it last night as well. I'm not a student or teacher, so that doesn't really apply. There's an application you have to fill out and ask them. Which I did. So, we'll see, I guess.  Undecided

Good luck! I hope they accept.. Because I'll certainly join. xD

Edit: And it doesn't matter if you're a student/teacher- you're taking Doctor Who into your work, and putting it on public display. Same thing.

I'm available if you have any questions, feel free to inbox me..or contact me via my site Smiley.

Best of luck!
