Hello,

I have some interest as a player and as a developper in Lotgd. I was wondering several things about the state of the code.
 • this forum seems rather quiet, has development moved to somewhere else?
 • what is the frequency of updates?
 • what is the roadmap for the game?
 • is there a public svn access to the source code? If yes what is the url? If not, why?
Thanks

Greetings, I'll answer what I can to the best of my ability. I'm sure some more serious community developers will either A. Correct me, or B. Explain in more detail than what I knew.

Question 1 - The forum itself is more active around module discussions and releases lately. However a lot of older topics have been dug up for newer developers to find answers, which has lead to those respected authors updating or reviving their threads. So typically you can log in daily to find a few new posts or modules! Smiley

Question 2 - Updates for the version 1.2.0 have been I would consider...done when time is available. I am not working with them in matters to the newest version of LotGD. However you can always expect new content for the current and I would assume older versions to pop up every so often around the forum itself. There are a few active coders who enjoy sharing their work with the community! *Cheers to them!*

Question 3 - Roadmap? I'm assuming as in direction the game is taking? (If I'm wrong I apologize!) It's hard to say, I know a lot of effort and ideas have been put forward into it, however describing it would be..a bit out of my element. Sorry mate.

Question 4 - If you are looking for the actual data base code and actual core foundation of LotGD you can find it under the "Resources Page" (Or navigation to your left) -->Installing The Game<-- It'll provide you with the basic code and modules you'll need to start the game. However adding additional modules and templates is strictly up to you, or whoever is in-charge of your games development. Most LotGD's will have a "Module List" on their home page in which you can find something more specific or a name to search here on the community forum at a later point. Most author's have been generous enough (In my case) anyways to share or help me along the way with modules and editing issues.

Well I hope I was able to answer some of your questions!

Kind Regards,
Crims

No, all development is still here, we're just a quiet lot these days.

 • what is the frequency of updates?
Very infrequent at this point, although there are a number we should be looking at rolling out.

what is the roadmap for the game?[/li]
There isn't really one at the moment.  kickme has been quietly working on improving efficiency and stuff, but he's a better one to detail where we are and where it's headed for now.

No, there is no public svn access at this time and no current plans to provide one.
Has been quite quiet the past 4 or so days. Sad

Modules do still tend to be released, but very infrequently. Most coders write for the sites they're connected with and keep their modules private.

Most sites are themed now too so not many even make modules for the core any more and just stick to creating theme specific modules.

I'm currently (very slowly) rebuilding the battle system, to make it a lot more extensible so you can add in things like agility and ranged weapons.

To give you a bit of perspective of why this is taking so long, I currently have three development jobs (all for startups) and start uni again next week, which includes a thesis this year and about 8 hours a week tutoring/marking. That puts rather a lot of constraints on my time, to the extent that Saturday is going to be my first day off in a month, with the last one being a public holiday.

As my workload at my jobs drops as my studies begin again, I should hopefully have more weekends free to actually get a decent amount of what I want to do done.

currently being an admin at a rather large OSS project, I think this is one of the major problems many projects face. in a vicious circular motion people see nothing happening so they lose interest, they lose interest so theres no chance for new blood and new code/posts coming in which leads back to the first part about nothing showing up as happening so people lose further interest. Why not take advantage of some excellent *free* hosts out there like bitbucket or github and post the code? allow people to make pull requests. i.e. do OSS the way it was meant to be done, allowing actual community input/help. Dont get me wrong, for every 1 users making a pull request you will have 1000 who will just pull the code and walk off, but that 1 pull request is more than you are getting now correct? imagine 5 PR's, then 20 and so on.
