Long time 0.97 kitbasher here.
I finally have a stable deviant strain, in fact truth be told I have had it for over year.
It is a total "perversion" of the "classic" LOGD though.
Perverted stuff includes:
playloc added to db. playloc remembers the page location of almost every page so that wherever you log out from- there you are. Inn sleeps etc. are still possible.
playloc in turn means-
mappable world. go location to location, travel between towns, etc. dungeon crawls. all that stuff.
this in turn meant-
no "forest" as such. instead, random monster tables triggered at random or by quest etc. battle mechanics unchanged, it's just that now you can encounter opponents wherever one of the monster tables is active. in particular, this allows for dungeon crawls etc.
I also added rations, based originally on a few mods but in the end I went my own way. Eating restores hit points, healers are few and far between.
Quests- 49 arrayable "questo" values, each one a variable showing stage of quest you're at. questo46 is healing potions- ie value of questo46 is number of healing potions you have.
Backpack- I created a back letting you carry two extra weapons and three changes of clothes / costume / armor.
and so on.
The single biggest change is, I added pictures and music/sound. So it's a walkable picture (or AVI or animation) displaying world.
My question is this- has anyone else gone this route? Or am I truly the outstanding code pervert here?
I originally started doing it because feedback irl from people looking at the LOGD game, mostly kids, was that it was lame because it was only text. Not a view I share. But it started me off trying to make the game more accessible for the less text-tolerant, and it spiralled out of control from there.
Anyone else go the graphic route? I would have thought some of the fan games like HP and SW would need graphics to carry the story at some point?
Would love to hear all the other views from fellow LOGDites.
