Love bites, but so do I!

HI! Grin
I don't like the title editor(please don't kill me Lips Sealed) because as it is, I cannot insert longer titles. On my server, we have 50 titles, uncolourified. Well, I just started colourifying them for 51+ DKs. Well, my colourifications would mean that the names are lengthened. This is a list of titles I have(small list, of course):
Quote
Farmboy/Farmgirl
Peasant/Peasant
Renegade/   Renegade
Rogue/Rogue
Mercenary/Mercenary
Warrior/Warrior
Page/Page
Squire/Squire
Gladiator/Gladiatrix

Well, for DKs over 50, they are Colourified. But, if I colourify a long name, like Gladiatrix, it cuts off some of it and I have to take out the colours...here is what I put in for Gladiatrix and what comes out:
Quote
Input:
`!G`@l`#a`$d`%i`^a`&t`)r`Qi`Rx
Output:(colours are *not* the same! To see what input looks like, enter it in the chat Wink)
Gladiatr`

I think the length should be longer so we can put colours into it, or some admins just want long titles.
Input is welcome!

Thank you,
Shane

It's not the editor, but the "titles" database table.

You need to alter the two field types that store the titles. They're currently set at varchar(25), change the 25 to 50 to allow 50 characters.

I think it should be lengthened in the core though, not where we have to change it ourselves. But, thanks for pointing that out, I had forgotten about changing the DB field...

// slips and drops the DB...

The core has no character length limitations, it's the database table that's at fault.

I found the same problem with the drink names. They're limited to 25 characters also.

So your telling me that the core doesn't create the tables Wink

But, even that being...there's no way that they can make it longer...oh well. I got my fix.

he's not saying the core doesn't Tongue
and as Afkamm said;

lib/all_tables.php
line 95.
Quote
         'name'=>'title', 'type'=>'varchar(25)'

I'd rather it's 25. Why?
Do you realize the users are displayed on the "homepage" which can be full of spam if you increase that field. Also, the commentary.... especially for small monitors.

If you already installed LoTGD, then edit your database manually via phpmyadmin or what ever you use. The DB won't adjust itself automatically if you change that file Cheesy.

Well, I am only using it for colourification, so mine aren't going to be "spam" nor mess up the commentary for small browsers more than normal ones do.

An option would be to have a larger field type, but strip out the colour codes from the title and count the actual length of it and make sure it's not beyond a certain point, before inserting the whole title into the database.

A title 10 characters long becomes 30 when you put a colour code before each character.

All that said, I think it would be best left to the superuser. Have a bigger type in the table, but output text in the editor explaining that long titles may make things look messy. Smiley

Messy if you increase...

If you do that.... do a nice favor to people's 1st impression. Your homepage. And make a module that will shorten the display. So that they see those spam titles nicely Tongue

Well, I don't know much about making a module for messing with the online characters...but as of now, I don't have anyone on my staff that can edit titles, so all is good.

Dont forget the account table (title, name col) and with colorizing the titles the maximum amount of color changes for the commentary has to be increased.

I know Wink, but I have it so it allows around 50 color changes i think.
