[Uncategorized] New Account Registrations by Talisman March 03, 2011, 12:41:28 PM
Uncategorized Due to the massive number of accounts being created by spammers lately, I have been forced to implement a higher level of control over new account registrations.

New accounts now require administrative approval before they will be able to log in, post and download files.

This change will be completely transparent to existing users.

If you are a new user and your account has not been activated within 24-48 hours, please advise me via email.  You can find the contact information in the footer of every page on this site.

I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may incur on legitimate new account registrations, however the increasingly inconsiderate tricks of spammers has driven us to that point.

[Uncategorized] DragonPrime Survival Guide (Or how to get the most out of this site) by Talisman April 17, 2007, 09:46:36 AM
Uncategorized Welcome to DragonPrime!  If you're new to the site, you're likely discovering quite quickly that there is a vast amount of information here, which can be somewhat overwhelming in the beginning.

Odds are that you've been referred to this thread in response to a request for assistance.  It is strongly recommended that you now take the time to read the advice contained below; understand, and heed that advice...for if you don't, you can expect to receive terse replies and minimal help from the majority of experienced users here.

This is a free site run and supported completely by volunteers who are busy running their own servers, coding modules and being distracted by Real Life.  There are a great number of questions and problems which are encountered on a regular basis, and nobody has the time (or inclination) to be typing the same answers time and time again.

When you come to DragonPrime looking for assistance with your Legend of the Green Dragon installation, customization or coding related problem, we expect that you will also make an effort to help yourself.  Answers will not be provided to you on a silver platter - you won't learn the needed skills to support your site unless you take the time and initiative to search the forums, FAQs and DragonPedia for information on your problem.

If your problem is related to basic website administration (mysql database management, FTP, HTML...) you will likely be referred to the great big internet to find a solution.  DragonPrime's mandate is LoGD, not "all things internet".

So, without further ado:  You came here expecting help; this is what WE expect of YOU in order to provide you with that help:

- Have at least basic knowledge of running a website; how to FTP files, manage a mySQL database, basic troubleshooting techniques.  We will not teach you how to do that here.  Hosting a Legend of the Green Dragon server is not recommended for novice site admins.

Before making a post asking for any help or a question:

1.  Use the SEARCH feature.  Search for key word(s) relating to your problem, then check the resulting threads for one dealing with your issue.  If your first search doesn't provide a solution, try a different combination of keywords and you may have more success.

2.  Read the FAQ.  There are a some commonly encountered issues addressed in the FAQ and may provide your solution.

3.  Search/Read the DragonPedia.  The DragonPedia is a wiki, just like wikipedia, and contains an evergrowing amount of information relating to the game, game play, game hosting, module coding and so forth.  The DragonPedia has a Search feature just like the forum.

Now, if you have followed the previous three steps (making an effort, not just glancing) and haven't found a solution, it's time to ask for help.

How to ask for Help:

1.  Post in the proper board.  If you have a question about the installer, don't ask your question in "Released Modules".  Take the time to familiarize yourself with the layout of the forum, and pay attention to what section you post in.

2.  Use a descriptive subject line.  A subject line of "HELP" is not helpful and will turn away a lot of potential helpers.  Expanding it to "Please Help Me" is no better.  Your subject line should quickly indicate what the problem is about.  "Error in weapons.php", or "Adding new colours" are more suitable examples.

3.  Provide detail.  Don't just say "it's broke how do I fix it ok tks".  Give us as much information as possible:

What version of the game are you running?
Was everything working fine before, or did you change something and it broke?
What did you change?
What have you tried to do to fix the problem?
What is the complete error message?
If you're requesting a feature or suggesting an idea for a new module, tell us what you're thinking of - we're not mindreaders.

4.  Use proper English.  While we don't expect everyone to be grammatically correct, and realize many DragonPrime users don't have english as a first (or even strong) language, we will ask that people don't use chatspeak type abbreviations (ne1, ppl, u, y, etc).

After you get a reply:

1.  Read all replies.  Consider the suggestions made, and try them all until one of them fixes the problem.  If you're asked for more information, make sure you give it - there's normally a reason why we'd ask for more.

2.  Update us.  Did one of the suggestions work?  Let us know if you found the fix, so others who find the thread will benefit.

Overall, remember that you must make the effort to help yourself, and to help us help you.  If you're too lazy to search for an answer, or expect the answer to be handed to you on a silver platter, you've come to the wrong place and can expect to find us becoming unhelpful.

If you're read this far, you might find this page on "How to ask questions the smart way" to be an interesting read.  Please note that that page is not affiliated with DragonPrime or Legend of the Green Dragon in any way, and will not provide support on issues related to DragonPrime.
