Yesterday I posted in a few threads a question about making shops available in one city only. In retrospect I should have just posted a new topic and ask how to do it myself. For this I am sorry.

It was suggested that I make the changes and repost it. Is this legal? Can you alter another person's module? Also, since I have always just had to make changes to a php file instead of making my own I have always used DreamWeaver. Will this do? If not is there a freeware tool that you all suggest?

I'm very satisfied with the PHP Coder R2 which is available for free at:
http://www.phpide.com/go/downloads.htm

There are also some ressources in the links section. (I've submitted that link, but it's not visible yet)

It is perfectly legal, as long as you hold all copyrights and credits of the original author.

Also, if you just make a small patch, it would be better to just go into the trhead they revealed it on and announce the patch there, then link to your shared folder.

Remember, you must retain all the original copyrights of the author and do not claim it as your own.

Don't be sorry Jim... I should apologise. I sometimes assume everyone reads all the threads here. Bad Sauce.

Below is a thread that discusses the dos and don'ts of the license. Basically you can make any changes you like to a 0.9.8 module as long as you release it and retain the original author's copyright.

There's a simplified, idiot-perpective explanation here (and by idiot, I mean me, so there might be slight misinterpretations in it).

Also, (my personal opinion) DreamWeaver is a fabulous tool for creating HTML on the fly, and probably creates the most disgustingly messy underlying code that I have ever seen. PHP is quite sensitive to any extraneous characters, which tools like DreamWeaver and FrontPage tend to add in huge amounts, from my experience.

I use EditPlus both for PHP and for HTML/XHTML/CSS/JavaScript. The other popular one around here seems to be Crimson Editor. These are designed especially to create clean code.

Yeah, I actually use both ^_^

Editplus is fantastic, I just love it. Same with Crimson Editor. They are both very nice and they are both very free. ^_^
