My Inbox is interesting today, i have an email from JT and one other user containg a virus, and one from anpera saying i sent one, either the board has been hacked or someone has a virus that is getting sent out and spoofing everyone.

Just a word of warning to make sure your AV is up to date (like mine wasnt Sad ) and to not even trust files from those you know, as they may have not sent it Smiley

The virus in this case was named 'W32.Beagle.X@mm' by my AV.

Beagle is known to send itself to addresses (not only) from outlook address books under a wrong name - also taken from adress book - through its own SMTP-engine. That's the reason why you may receive it with somebody's name on it who has not sent it and who's computer is not infected.

Keeping your AV software up to date always is a good advise. Wink

yes, i am aware of that, and as such i dont wanna blame anyone, but considering that you and i have never emailed each other the ONLY addressbook likely to have all the adresses is this boards

if you do get infected by this

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.beagle@mm.removal.tool.html  will remove it

The board does not use an address book for email addresses.  They are all contained in the user account database which, to the best of my knowledge, can't be exploited by beagle.

This means that someone has poor anti-virus protection in place, has sent or received email from several users including phofire, anpera and jt - this could be any one of several people I would suspect.

Someone who liked one of your mods?
Another mod author whom you've worked with/helped.
Some random person who adds everyone to their email and IM lists?  Undecided (yes, there are a few of those out there)

Basically any number of people is my guess.

I know it's not myself who's infected, since I'm running Linux Smiley

I would like to stress I am not accusing anyone, just wanted to get the warning out there, any supposition on who  it is is out of curiosity, and now that all of my computers have AV loaded, im not concerned for myself anymore.

quit blaming me Phofire!  and quit blaming talisman.  it was all robert's fault.  (maybe that accusation will get his butt back to the board Grin)

disclaimer:  the above comments were made in complete jest.  except that part about getting robert back on the boards.  oh, and that part about blaming tal, it's all his fault.
