After playing on Central, and donating some money, I came upon the ability to rename my mount. This being a very nice and cool feature, I decided to start a module. I believe I am finished with it, but I need to know some final things...

Will I have to drop in a new column into accounts for Mount Name?

Also:
Code:
$sql = "UPDATE" . db_prefix("accounts") . "SET mountname != '$mount' WHERE acctid != '$id'";
Would that work right after I dropped in the column?

Or...if Kendaer is gonna release that module, should I just wait?

The named mount code was written by Eric and he doesn't wish to release it yet.

However, i can tell you straight off that it does NOT use another column added to any table.

You are of course welcome to write whatever you like, but if you look at some of the code around mounts that was added to the core, you might just be able to figure out what we did.

Wow, I would've thought a column for each account to hold the specific mountnname per player.

Well, thanks for that. I shall continue writing.

Nope.  We make use of the module preferences code and hooks.

I have not yet seen ANY reason why any code needs to extend the core tables, and in fact, the only reason some of the stuff is in the core tables now is because it was there before we had modules.  Most things should either be using set_module_pref/get_module_pref OR they should be creating and maintaining their own table (for something like Dag or the drinks module, or the riddles table where the amount of information needed is substantial and it's not tied to a specific player)

Oh, I get it. Kinda like the Haberdasher module. It requires no new tables in SQL, but has a different setting per account. It makes sense. Embarrassed
