BATTLEPICS MODULE FOR LOGD v0.9.8

This module displays an image of your foe in forest, graveyard, training, pvp, and dragon fights.  Any or all of them can be disabled.  Defaults for each type of fight can be set for when an opponent doesn't have an image specified.  And for anyone who hates the idea of polluting a perfectly good text-based game with pictures, or just has a pathetic connection (like me  Cry ), players can disable this in their preferences.

Here's a summary.

-- Admins can:
-- upload an image for a creature
-- selectively enable/disable different types of fights globally
-- specify default images for forest, graveyard, pvp, and training battles
-- specify allowed image file extensions
-- set an creature's image back to the default with the push of a button
-- add master, pvp, and dragon images using a naming convention

-- Users can enable/disable battle image display in preferences

I am NOT a graphic artist.  This module's purpose is to allow admins to use images of their own choosing on their servers.  I've included a random sampling of images so you can see how it  works, but by and large they suck, and they almost never have anything to do with the creature they're for.   In fact, the only reason they aren't all the same image or two is that I got bored looking at them all the time.  Tongue

I hope that people who create or find art to use will make it available for others to use with this module.

this requires modification to files to add a new hook.  is kendaer aware of this new hook?

It requires three, actually; one in battle.php and two in creatures.php, unless he already added any and I don't know yet.  But yeah, he knows it needs new hooks.

The one in battle will be in the next code release.
The one in creatures after the page_header isn't needed.  use "header-creatures" instead.

The last one I'm not adding because I believe you and I had a discussion in the past about why this was the wrong way to go about this  Smiley

I don't think that the hook belongs there at all nor am I convinced that's the right way to hook that editor.  Basically I think it's a special purpose hook rather than a general purpose one (unlike the one in battle which I can see other uses for and hence why it's being hooked now).

Feel free to have a discussion with me at some point (or better yet, look up my emails back when we were first talking about why this was the wrong way to go about it Smiley)

BTW, the instructions in your readme are wrong Smiley

Is anyone using this module? How do you like it? I'm thinking about installing it on my server and wanted to hear what people thought of it first.

Kendaer,

I can't remember if it was here or some where else but I heard that you and MightyE have been thinking about adding something like this to the core. Is that true?

It has been discussed, yes, but it's not there yet Smiley

Do you have a link to your site?

Also have the issues been resolved with the hooks?

Does anyone have a good set of pics made up for this, by chance? Wink

Can you please show us what the instructions should be for this?

*coughs from dust* Yeah, very old module, but nonetheless my all-time favourite. Yet it didn't work as intended, and as I never see Melisande here my hubbie and me changed the module for my server, and I thought maybe someone else could use it too.

Some of the changes:
- Changed defunct $HTTP_SERVER_VARS to $_SERVER, now graveyard and pvp work correctly (At least it never worked on any of my servers.)
- Removed the upload grotto stuff. (Never worked on my server neither.) Just add your pics per SSH/FTP (instructions are in the module comments). Thus no core editing is necessary anymore.
- Changed image output to hide it from the translator tool, aligned the pics neatly to the left.
- added download link
- several other small changes

Update:
Now special event monsters work with pics too. If none is specified the module will use the generic forest pic as before.

To add a pic to e.g. Sichaes Penguin Overlord just call it
special_penguinoverlord. png
drop it in the battlepics folder and it works.

Once again, naming conventions are in the module comments.

Anyone interested to get the pics for event fights when I draw some? I'll definitely draw penguin and tatoo monster.
