Here's another favorite mod that Anpera and I worked on... tis essentially a couple generations of improvements to Vessa's gemshop, but with a limited economy and price flux based on scarcity in the market.

This is the newest version I've worked on :

I don't know if your aware of this but the default prices in the gem store are set to give a player a great advantage. By selling 3 gems then buy 3 gems the player makes a 1000 gold profit - a great way to build cash at level 4.

To solve this, I made the price as such:
3400, 6700, 9900
After doing this, I no longer see level 4 players with level 15 weapons and armor.

Actually, I was aware of that and it's something I didn't use as the default in Legendgard, (which is often considered far more difficult than most servers).

Good suggestion for others who use the gem script though.

I like it, and will probably add it to our main game. Grin

I'm getting very curious about what the file rogue.php contains  Shocked

Anyway, if there are more people out there that doesn't have it,
Change
Code:
addnav ("Return to Rogue's Alley","rogue.php");

to
Code:
addnav ("Return to the Village","village.php");

or wherever you put the gemstore

If you have downloaded and added my PatchSettings mod
you can add the line
Code:
$setup["selledgems"] = "Gems Jen has to sell,int";
at the end of patchsettings.php
instead of editing configuration.php
or preferrably (for future recognition)
Code:
/* BEGIN Gemstore patch (by Ampera/LoneStrider) */
$setup["selledgems"] = "Gems Jen has to sell,int";
// END Gemstore patch

En regards to Rogue.php, afraid you're going to have wait until I'm ready to release the "Rogues Alley" script from Legendgard. Probably in a short while actually.

Other than that, you'll have to find someone who plays legendgard and get an invite to check it out yourself.

Good catch though on the linkage. Absolutely right. I've seen a lot of people put this one in their sub-areas, so just configure to suit your tastes.

I installed the mod and the villagers were extremely thankful.
A bit too extreme. I guess a lot of them will regret their trades in a few days (there's 120 gems in the shop after 2 days). hehe

What do you think about having a limit i.e. of only 3 gems traded per level?
Not multiplied with the level but 3 gems for level 4, 3 for level 5 and so on.
This mostly to protect the players themselves from becoming greedy and sell all their gems.

I think I'll try it out, but would like some inputs from you guys/gals first, as I haven't been running LotGD servers for more than a couple of months, so you will more easily see the benefits and dis-advantages about this...

I'd say it depends on the availability of gems in your server.  Most times, we're lucky if there are one or two gems available in the Legendgard gem shops.  Every once in a while, someone will sell off a large number (up to 250) but this is very infrequent.

With the most expensive mount running at 2500 gems, even the gemshop is a minor boost!

You may find a temporary glut after introducing the shop, but it should normallize within a short period of time.

I'll have to agree with Talisman on this one. I just make sure that there isn't a profit from selling and buying back, so it slowly sucks down the economy (as it should).

Beyond that, limiting the trade? I don't think it needs much more beyond the market balance.

Of the three Gem Stores that I know of - The Anpera/Strider Gem Store is  the only one that is player based and wont upset game balance - I have used them all and the Anpera/Strider Gem Store is the only one that remains in the realm as it only needs to be priced to avoid being a cash machine. It may be an oddity at first and players go into a frenzy but that will level off after the initial newness wears off.

I use the following prices and see no abuse:
3400, 6700, 9900

k. Thanks for your inputs. I'll leave it as it is.

I think most users have realised by now how stupid it was to sell off that many of their gems.
Especially those that have gained titles since then and have wasted their savings intended for new mounts Wink
I've got Buy Gems links to appear at level>3 and Sell to appear at level<12 for now.

It's remarkable to watch them learn, isn't it?

Hi, I modified this gemstore to use an exponential pay scale.  This removes the big discontinuity at 3 gems, and, hopefully, helps to find the stable market point.  I coded it so that the parameters are easily modifiable, but I'm using log for calculations so be careful.

Nice work BEM. . . I'll intergrate it with some changes I've made to the new Gemstore.php system.

I was doing something kinda like it for the 2.0 version, but yours works a LOT better and is much cleaner than this rogue poet's. Great job mate!

I wanted to make a public note to everyone about Anpera and Lonestrider's gemshop:

BEM mentioned changing the character back to Vessa because of confusion. There is to be no confusion
this is CLEARLY a different script. We didn't know who authored Vessa.php and though this script does
the same thing, it's NOT Vessa.php and should not be confused for her. The storybits and intergration
of roguish elements are all from the tip of my quill and the functionality came from a series of
versions between Anpera and I. Originally we sought for something like Vessa to work in our realms with actual balance. The vessa.php doesn't work for that purpose and we couldn't use it.

What anpera gave to me was his german mod, basically just gem selling platform with a limited market and a price flux, intergrated into the Gypsy Hut. I took it out of the gypsyhut, expanded it and called it
" gemshop.php "

Of course, we still credit Vessa.php in the file notes, as that was the first attempt which gave us something to work from and the desire. Many realms still use Vessa.php, many realms now use gemshop.php . There is more than one way to skin a cat. This one is ours. You may change it on your realms however you like, but my "released" versions of this gemshop will always be with Jen as I never knew Vessa very well.
