The lodge.php code is something being reserved for MightyE and JT. . .  basically it's a reward system for giving donations. To see it work, check out lotgd.net and see how it's setup. You can donate a few bucks to MightyE and get some points to spend on extra turns, forest fights or name changes.

I believe (and JT or ME can jump in here if I'm wrong), they're not planning on making a lodge public release. It's a bonus feature added for their users (as the inventors of the game, I say more power to them if they can make a few bucks).

Many servers have made their own versions of Lodge.php, but if you're curious, the point of it is basically a reward area for donators.

No, the pavilion.php just isn't useful to everyone. If you'd like I have a copy, but essentially the pavilion allows users to join a "BetaTest" area. It toggles the "Beta" flag in your user account and IF anyone codes a BETA forest or a Beta area that only users signed up for the beta program can access, then it lets them do that.

They can also remove themselves from the beta program and it's a chat area for those features.

Since I treat the entire game as a betatest area and I don't have any changes that specifically call the Beta flag, I don't see any point to the pavilion for me.

I believe it was something JT originally threw in while he was messing the the forest fights.

No, the README.txt does in fact refer to the Hunter's Lodge, but that was when Eric was using the README to track things he'd changed (ie, as a changelog).  There is no promise in there to release the lodge. It is meant as a value add for site donations on the official sites.

Right, lodge.php is there to reward donations on our development servers.  We have no plans to release the lodge.php code, though that doesn't stop anyone from writing their own lodge.

I wrote one that rewards players with weapon/armor restrings and custom pets for referrer points...this seems to be the easiest and sanest thing to do (since donations for server admins would probably be a rarity).

on line with this ,w aht is the ethicality (is that a word) of offering a subscription plan for special skills titles access to new day link etc, my server seems in support of it but is it something i should shy away from doing?

Ethicality?? Pefectly fine.

Play balance?? That's where I find it to be a bad idea.  It has always been Eric's and my policy on our servers that we don't give something to players for donation which would unbalance the game.  It might make some things easier (such as cheaper healing via golinda, or free inn stays or extra forest fights) but it shouldn't be such an overwhelming advantage that without it players could not compete.  I would say that special skills might be okay (depending on what those classes were and if they were balanced), I would say access to the newday link would probably be right out! Smiley  But that's just me and my views on play balance.
