This is a complete remake of a gift shop for those of you running the Quest's gift shop, or those who don't have one...  You have my permision to use this one.  It was built from the ground up and is made to be edited.... You will need to input your own gifts and set the navs.  Instructions are in the zip file.  This will be part of  the up and coming Oak Street Add-on that will be coming.   Have commented out the checkevent function and you should leave it out as it is part of the Oak Street functions.  Anyway as usual input, criticism, whatever welcome.

Lonnyl,

I've been planning to modify your gift shop but haven't had the time lately. Have you ever considered allowing the gifts to provide a benefit to the reciever? For instance, say I send you a box of chocolates in game, they could provide you with 5 rounds of a "sugar high" during combat (a mod to attack or defense or both).

What 'cha think?

Yes, I have thought about that.... however haven't had time to code it or come up with a smooth system for notifying someone.   example-the recipient of the gift is battling away in the forest and doesn't even notice they got the e-mail or the buff.... a gift like that is no fun without notification.   On our game (soon to be realeased feature) players can haunt other players real time, and I know of a couple of instances where a person was fighting in the forest and being haunted the entire time (loosing 1 to 5 hitpoints per turn) and didn't even notice.  Even though a big bold notice was put at the top of his page.....  but yes it's a feature I am looking into.   Propably will be some kind of buffs.

I'm not sure how you've got your game setup, but to me the easiest thing would be the player doesn't recieve the buff until after he/she opens the YOM. Once that happens it takes affect immediately. If you want to get more creative there could be a section label under your special abilities called Gift buffs (or something like that) and have all your available gift buffs listed. That way if 2 people each send you a box of chocolates, you can eat one or both boxes during a forest fight.

The second method would be a bit harder to code than the first, but it'd be worth it.

Just my thoughts...

I think I'd rather see something like that not take effect until after the fight...if players can get buffs like that added during fights, there will be very few lost fights in the forest or against the dragon.  Instead, they'll pause before losing and get a mate to send them some buffs.

My issue with all this is how to pass the item alltogether..... E-mail is good for cutesy useless stuff.  I have an instant notification system running on my game that is good for this, however users in the forest tend to hit F a bunch of times and their notifications go unread.   And to give Items would require storage in the database.   Items could be given that increase use points in a specialty for one day only.   ex-this items gives one theirvery use point for one day.   That would be easy enough to code and not impede the game design too much.

What if the YOM (or in Lonny's case, an instant message) was a notification that the player had a package and they had to return to the Gift shoppe to pick it up said gift?

Updated the gift shop to format the navs a little nicer and added some comments to help with customizing the shop.

Have you tried looking in the downloads section?  Incidently, this mod is for version 0.97 and is not compatible with version 1.x.x in any way, shape or form.
