I know we are all good at it but it probably would be nice to share knowledge and experiments with templates, don't you think?
Call it skins, call it what ever you want but it could be useful to have an area dedicated to the templates where people can discuss about thema nd share their templates.
Just an idea...

When the volume of discussion on templates/skins warrants it, I'll add such a section...but there has been precious little talk on the subject so far.  Thanks for the suggestion, though - it's something I had debated adding a while back, but decided against it for that reason.

Well, I have seen some nice templates out there...I think it's a side of modding/customization that is often overlooked.  If those with knowledge start posting, I will reassess the need for such a forum...

mine can be seen on my server.

They are not that HARD but you do have to make sure you don't miss anything. and make sure it's all readable when all the digrant colors are plugged in.

There is one template on central server that is almost imposible to read with all the difrant colors.

... come on you know which one I am talking about!

Personally, I think all of the existing templates suck to some degree or another, but I'll agree that teksolo is nigh unto unreadable...

If people really want to create good looking templates, I'd love to see them.. Send me a URL in PM to a game where the template is running (doesn't have to be an active game, just one that I can log into and see the way it looks).  If it looks good, I'll drop you a PM and ask for the template file(s) and put them into 0.9.8 with your blessing.

I only use Yarbrough because it sucks least Smiley

I have one on defalt... ignore the google ads and you have the template. it's one of many versons. I am working on one with a white background.

... though some of them are NOT bandwith frendly, but seeing how I have a open pipline to the net I don't ever worry about bandwidth, others don't have that luxery.

If and I do mean IF a new functional template is in demand I will see if I can throw together one that won't take up to much bandwith and is still... opticly pleasing.

PM me if your interested.

all my templates can be found on my server

Well, even with your "open pipeline", and with the T1 I'm on at work, your images were slowly, slowly, appearing.
Just because you don't have to worry about bandwidth usage doesn't mean users want to sit there and spank it while images download over a slow connection.
That's just from the login screen, so I'm assuming once you get into the game it's not as image-heavy.
My $.02.

I will agree that even on my DSL link (384kbps) downloading the images for any of your HFS-LOGD or the jessy skin you have are pretty heavy.. I think those images could be made more light-weight, but I did like the visual appeal of them.

The HFS-LOGD ones at least had a couple of display glitches under my browser (Galeon on Linux) as well which would need to be worked out before it could be a general skin Smiley

However, if you wanted to make a lighter weight but visually appealing skin or set of skins, I'd be certainly willing to look at them and consider them.

Ouch. That big one's a 155k'er. I'm on a multiple T3 connection at work (multiple OC-48's actually but a big majority are reserved for company business needs and not internet & of course there's 2000+ people using it too lol) and it loaded up real slow. Usually things even that size aren't slow at all.

JT, I thought I saw somewhere that the images aren't pulled from the browser cache because of the way the PHP code loads them up.  That true?
