This is a dumb question, but how do I add NPCs to my game?

I think you need to be a little more specific about what you want - where will they be found, what do you want them to be able to do, what kind of attributes do you want?

I would like NPCs in the village and the INN., etc...I see them on other servers, but have no idea how it is being done.

Not sure what brookstech is looking for, but in the original LORD had NPCs that would add to the conversation at the Inn and also the Dark Hoarse Tavern.  When a playable character says a key word, it would trigger a response from a NPC.  

Also, in LORD,  there was something else in the Daily News.  You would log in and aside from so-and-so being killed, or whatever; you would also see a post like "The children are missing...".

I would like to have NPC's that say random things. I don't know how to code it though...If anyone would know how to code something that would let them say something every so often to help newbies?

One thing I did, which makes storytelling easier, is to create a "blank" account. It is an admin account, but I have a "hidden" account field which is used when listing players in any form, it ignores characters with account[hidden] set. I gave the character a display name of nothing, and when I log in as that character, I can do actions and it won't display the character's name (as there isn't one), so I can do ":A guy walks down the street" and in the commentary it will display "A guy walks down the street".
I doubt that's what you're looking for, but it can be handy.

I already Do that lol. I just need a way for the NPC's to say something randomly.

well, just use voratus' idea, and create a function to be randomly called that will inject commentary.

I think he is looking for something that I am testing right now... the npc's seth, dag, cedrick and violet all add to commentary in the inn... and show as logged on whenever someone is on.... they look like real players except the NPC suffix on their name.... the problem I am having is the server load... If I get this all tweaked out.. I'll get it uploaded here...

Can you give me the fileds to add to the DB? I thin I got them all, but I am getting some real strange results...like when I go into the superuser account and try to change a PC to an NPC and what not, After I click on "save" I get stuck in a never ending loop of screen refreshes...

For:
NPC I used tinyint(4)
for npccommentary I used varchar(30)
for commons I used varchar(200)  did n't what this ths is for
for all commentray I used varchar(200)

commons is int (11) dv 0
