I'm confused. This is obviously an option I've set or changed somewhere but I have no idea where.. It seems that the shades do damage to players who move around in them, now. Is it normal? I am running the stable 1.0.6 and I have a lot of non-core modules installed.

a couple things. do ye hath a test server?  i highly recommend having one to test modules on before setting them loose on the players on the live server.

secondly, hath ye considered deactivating each one of the non-core modules that are related to shades?  then reactivate one at a time, thoroughly testing what its functions are before activating the next one?  it may take ye a few days of testing to figure out which one is causing the occurrence.

in all likelihood, one is written to specifically cause this to happen if a player stays in shades for a long period just hanging out.

I'll do that. Thanks. I'll let you know what I find.

Alright, I disabled all the modules related to the Shades and it still does it.
Time to set up a test server with all the modules, disable them all, and test them all.. Yay. There's a mistake I won't do again :-)

I enabled all the modules on the test server and didn't manage to repeat the problem.
I am completely and utterly confused.

[edit : I take it back. It's now happening in the test server. *sigh* here we go. Disabling modules one by one.]

what is the particular damage that occurs to the players?  is it possible to run a search for a certain keyword/string in the folder that the modules are in to perhaps narrow it down?

Anything in the player's debug log?

Er. How do I get to the debug log.. ? Is that the one in the user editor? If so, no, there's nothing about that loss of soulpoints.

[edit: Something I hadn't tried before. I just typed something in the shades to talk and pressed Enter. Bam. Loss of soulpoints.]

FOUND IT!
It was one of those "This cannot possibly be the module that does it".

"Lost Little Girl".
There we go.

This fix might help:
change line 214 to
Code:
if(get_module_pref("guilt")>0) $session['user']['soulpoints'] -= $penalty;

Oh my, that one was really mystifying me. I squandered valuable time and the solution was right here. This site is a magnificant boon! I deactivated Little Lost Girls and problem solved! I never would have figured that out. Thanks so much.
