Classic (Central), DragonCat and GemDust are having problems with a serial spammer who is inviting all and sundry to click his referral link. The messages look like this:

Would you be interested in joining a new MMORPG similar to this one? It is called Zeus' Legacy and is set in Athens. Players use their daily energy to train, fight, pray to the gods, form alliances and the like. It has recently reset so now would be as good a time as any to join.Thank you for your time.

http://www.zeuslegacy.com/ register.php?ref=670

(Please note... both Blarg and admins of other games have reported ID 175 doing this as well.)

It was becoming so annoying with heaps and heaps of these that I tried to contact the admins of Zeus' Legacy to see whether we could get together to stop it - and I found to my disgust that they think nothing is wrong and that it is funny! This idiot is moving on to every server he can find - I received it from a Finnish server this afternoon. And non-LoGD game admins have the same issue. This loser is joining every other free game he finds too.

His latest IP is 70.95.238.151.

I sent an email to ThePlanet.com this morning about my concerns. They host both Zeus' Legacy and Classic Server and I am hoping that they understand that they are upsetting one of their best customers. I would encourage all of you who are receiving these spam messages to please send an email to abuse@theplanet.com asking them to step in and make Zeus' Legacy do something to stop the player concerned (either by a caution, ban or deletion in their game, or even just asking all their players not to do this).

I don't know if it would do any good, but it wouldn't hurt to also contact abuse@rr.com since that's where he originates.

theplanet.com isn't likely to do anything unless the site is in contravention with their user agreements (ie promoting hatred or something like that), or generating volumes of spam mail through their smtp server.  Since neither is happening, you're not likely to get a response, or a satisfactory response from them.

I hate to say it, but those "well spoken and caring individuals" on the zeuslegacy forum are probably sitting at their monitors chuckling at how irate you're getting and the profanity/insults you're posting, and are now just goading you on.

yah i blew up and unzipped my fly for them Sad

I pointed out to theplanet that their messages could violate their "spamvertising" policy...being that any server that is hosted by theplanet can get shut down if spam messages point people to said server...even if the spam isnt sent over their network.

There are probably certain parameters to the spamming that theplanet.com would require to see met before they start going after one of their accounts.  In this case, it's easy enough to argue that it's not the actual client who is doing the spamming.

A difficult, and unsatisfactory situation, I agree...but one you may be stuck with for the moment.

They never bothered to answer me either and I mailed them from two different email addresses.

Bloody rude if you ask me. Thumbs down to customer service.

The Planet is notorious for this.  They can't even answer their customers, they definitely aren't going to reply to you unfortunately.

They are hosted by IX Web Hosting (http://ixwebhosting.com).  If you can provide URLs to the spam, send it to the address on their contact page.  They will investigate.  They have a zero tolerance policy on this and are concerned.

This happened at our site a few months ago.  I contacted the admins of the offending game and same thing, they thought it was funny.  To help reduce the spam we have added the words zeuslegacy with other variations to our nasty words filter.

Since this seems to be an on going problem, I was going to look at restricting YoM's to players with 0 dk's to a minimum level of 4.  At least that way they can no longer just create accounts and spam.

Hi guys,

Im ixion, the owner of ZL. I want to help you, but nobody has yet contacted me. If you can give me the ip of any offenders I can ban them from ZL.

Sorry that I didnt see your forum post, I have a community admin that should have notified me, but evidently didnt. Im a bit too busy to read all the forum posts you see.

If you have any questions, ill try to check back soon.
