What Is Castle Siege?

In Castle Siege, you take the role of a mighty Lord or Lady overseeing the defense of your castle. You are responsible for the maintenance of your crops, the raising of an army, and the defense of your castle from the barbarian hordes. As your might increases, you may wish to visit death and destruction on other castles in a bid for supremacy.

Castle Siege is built on top of the LoGD core and aspires to be a BRE/Falcon's Eye style castle management sim.

Downloading Castle Siege Modules

I do not plan to release any of the Castle Siege modules at the current time.  I follow the license to the best of my ability and do not violate any of it's terms (although there is a technical point or two that will hopefully be resolved in the future).  The modifications to the core that I have made are available from the module info area - these are purely cosmetic edits.

Castle Siege Information:

http://forum.castle-siege.net - Our hopelessly unhelpful admin and mod(s) might answer questions there!
http://castle-siege.net/wiki - The wiki! Actually kind of helpful Smiley

* Elessa reads this idea with interest

i like this quite alot.  ye hath to forgive me, but i am fighting a really bad headache at the moment and therefore hath not downloaded this to attempt to play with it.

when ye say gold buys buildings, are ye referring to fortifications for the castle's outer wall?  does the player need to also repair damage to the wall?

would it be possible to also have abilities related to a particular speciality?  such as mystical arts spells or dark arts could be used against a particular mage/sorceror who is on the opposing side?  or do ye envision this as strictly fighting with mundane means of weaponry?

what about the ever present cauldrons of boiling water or lead that they show being poured over the walls in the movies?

can there be teamwork involved in a way that multiple players can be working towards defeating the same army who is attacking?

if none of this fits into the concept ye hath in thy head, tis alright.  i am excited to simply see such an offshoot that will be another way for a player to spend their time.

Gold buys buildings:

The Player has two seperate areas in which to build.  One is his keep (the last line of defense).  The keep is static and the player can upgrade it (the blacksmith is located there, for troop upgrades, as an example).

The second area is the "outer wall", where the player has a grid upon which to build whatever he wants.  You can build things like farms, to make your harvests more abundant, barracks and ranges to produce troops, houses to increase tax revenue, and of course walls, to aid in your defense.

I do plan to implement some form of building damage (caused by siege engines).

Wizardy:

I've got an interesting plan for this.  obviously the majority of your forces will be conventional, but perhaps there will be times or ways to get supernatural aid...

Turrets, boiling oil, and other wall defenses:

that is a definite yes Smiley

As for teamwork, I'm considering several approaches, including a "raid" approach where multiple armies engage a powerful foe in order to win above average rewards.

As always I am extremely interested in feedback and suggestions - PvP and "levelling" will be included in the next day or two, along with a player guide, at which point the skeleton of a playable game will be up and running Smiley

This seems like a good concept.  Opens many possibilities.

I am very interested in the team work aspect.  I very much want my players to be able to have common goals.  Right now its practically a free for all, and clan 'wars' are mainly statistical.  It would be great if some players could go in on the same castle and the only enemies they have to worry about are other players.  The castle owners would have to contribute to the defense of the castle.  Maybe a castle couldn't be captured (might be a nice idea in the long run) but it could be razed to the ground.  I want to add some 'meaning' to my game, and this could very well do it.

I did not download and try this, but I might in the near future just for kicks.  I'll mainly be watching for the team aspect.

Just a couple more thoughts:  1.  If someone has the worldmap, castles could be erected anywhere, not just in cities (maybe you have that, like I said, I didn't dl it).  2.  Cities themselves can become defensible as castles.  These last two ideas may not be compatible with the spirit of your concept.

I am bumping this topic, as I could use a few more people playing with the game, especially as I continue adding religion and clan features.

Please feel free to try it out, bounce ideas off me, or just bug the hell out of me over AIM or in game Smiley

edit: also Saucy and robert you guys make me blush, reading some of these threads Smiley

This isn't something that's downloadable. Rather, it's an actual game on an actual server.  Smiley
