I am fiddling with a new race code.  Combining the amwayr code and the race dwarf code.  I understand how to block navs and add navs.  My main problem is this.  I want to rename the name of the bank, say Debt Central.  How would I go about this?  I noticed it has been done with the dwarf race's tavern and can't really make heads or tails with it.  And it was able to change what the module outputted as well.  Like Cedrick was renamed Gargoyle.   Much appreciation in advance to anyone who could help me.

In version 1.0.6 it is not possible to change those place names from within a module...

(Indeed it is possible, but the means to do so contain bad coding style, hassling with global variables, etc. )

You could use the translator for this, but this would change the texts for all cities.

Yeah, that is what I was afraid of.  Hmmmm, I guess the only logical route would be to make a copy of certain modules, block navs like bank.php, armor.php, etc and replace them the copies like bank2.php, armor2.php, etc.

Perhaps this might be possible through city prefs in the future though?

asking as a non-programming type, how then are the bank and tavern, etc. in esoterra capable of being named something else?  especially since the bank is the same gold account regardless of where accessed? its name in esoterra is completely different.

qexelcrag's tavern serves entirely different drinks than the boar's head in degolburg. same way the inn in esoterra and its sister city, polareia borealis, serves different drinks.

The inn and the stables are specially prepared for modification. Both files contain basic information / standard texts / standard functions, which can be changed by a module. The bank, the weapon shop and the armor shop do not have these necessary modifications (yet... Wink )

You might have to resort to use the blood bank and rename it with the translator.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking of doing with the bank.  Any other suggestions besides copying and renaming the armor and weapon modules?

That only changes the name in the Village navs...it doesn't change any of the names or narrative displayed inside the building.

then hook into holiday and check to see which location they're in, then change the words accordingly.

Should be easier as well.

Interesting idea Kickme, but wouldn't it suck up resources from the server, since it would make a call with every hit?  (A good friend pointed that out to me.)

Ok, so I was copying armor.php and making the copy into ovarmor.php. since I wanted to change the text in the shop,  and now it appears at the very top of the screen.  I had blocked the nav for armor and inserted the nav for the new shop.

Quote
blocknav("armor.php");
addnav("K?Kel'tahk Armor","ovarmor.php");

Am I missing something to make it appear in the marketnav, even though I didn't change anything in the copy of armor.php that dealt with that?  All I have changed so far is the name.

I apologize if this is a simple fix that most people can do.

Yes, you have to add it under a specific navheader.

I think it's "fightnav".

So, basically you'd have to do the following:

Code:
tlschema($args['schemas']['fightnav']);
addnav($args['fightnav']);
addnav("K?Kel'tahk Armor","ovarmor.php");
tlschema();

All shops shoul be added to villages this way. (See the various shops in the core release: Petra, Ella, Kitchen, Crazyaudrey...)

Thanks XChirsX, that was the solution I needed.  I will definitely do this when adding all shops to the city.
