That seems to be the 'trend', MightyE posted a similar warning in Central:

Quote
Giving out your password
FireBee Swarm MightyE the Hive Mind 2004-05-20 12:34:01
On the alpha server, we had someone pretending to be an admin and asking others for their passwords.

We'll never for any reason ask you for your password. Period. We simply won't do it. In fact, JT & I have gone to great lengths to make sure that we could not get your password even if I wanted it. However, I (and other admins) do have the ability to change your password to something else, so if we really needed to log in as you for some reason, we could do it with out your help.

This password thing goes for EVERY site you encounter on the Internet. Don't ever give anyone else your password, even if they claim to be working with customer service, and even if they threaten to turn off your account. If they're asking for a password, they are not legitimate. Never Ever EVER give out your password. If you're really unsure, look up the contact information for customer service, and contact them yourself.

If you run a public server, make sure your users know!

It's somebody who uses Demon Internet for an ISP (demon.net or demon.co.uk).
I wonder how secure this person's firewall is (assuming there is one).

We've got a big red notice at the top of the village for everyone to see at present....   The interogation room mod worked great for this however they were still trying to e-mail while they were in the interogation room.... going to have to look at a way to shut down e-mail while they are in there.... But I have MySql control center running with a query going to flag everything they sent.... locked the account (first time I used the lock option) which worked pretty good... deleted the e-mails, and proceded to perform some bans... it all turned out fairly well..... 2 users gave out their passwords, but we had them change them imediately, so no real harm done.   Oh well...... they had their fun 3 minutes... hehehe

Yeah, this person attempted this on logd.dragoncat.net as well and gained themselves a perma-ban for their trouble.

lol, the guy is so stupid it's hilarious, and I'm almost betting they are doing it out of boredom, cuz he sent the same email directly to my administrator/god account on logd.wasabiburn.com, also providing him with perma-ban.

If they have any sense in their head they would know that it won't work on the admin, so I'm thinking they are just trying to piss us off and probably aren't even interested in the passwords

* Sichae pulls out his shovel and digs this one up...

The IP matches that of cragiboy and branden/brendon.

Funny how the past always repeats itself, eh?

IN case you folks missed the "Troublemaker Player" thread... that's brendan, folks.  Just add him to the ol' .htaccess file.

And so, in honor of my .htaccess file, I created a clan in my server:

Order of Deny,Allow

I brought this thread up, because it was started a LONG time ago, even before Brendan was prevelant as he is now.

Thie thread is from before 9.8.

Ah.  My mistake, Sichae!

My hat's off to you for the .htaccess idea.
