lo lads, hoping someone has some suggestions on this...

had a myriad of issues attempting to install lotgd past step 8 which was finally resolved by removing the modules directory, creating a new one with only some core modules, then re-adding others in batches of 10 or so after installation was completed. Once this was done everything appeared fine until  I attempted to add 2 custom races racevamp and racebarb.

I uploaded the files, browsed through to the Grotto -> "Manage Modules" and found myself staring at a blank page. I uploaded a file containing phpinfo() etc and realised that php was only allocated 8mb, so I asked the admin to increase it in the settings which he happily did (twice before he got irritated) once to 16 and once to 32 as mentioned in the FAQ (i realise there is a 'fix' in local_config.php seems to make no difference here however)

I can access the module management section of the grotto for installed module categories by browsing to Grotto -> Game Settings -> <Any Module> -> Module Category - <Module Name> and from there I can activate/deactivate/reinstall/uninstall any of the system modules. If however from this menu I choose "Uninstalled - (46 Modules)" I am again presented with a blank page as I i had selected "Manage Modules" from the Grotto menu.

I then attempted to rename the modules dir and create a new one (as i had done during installation) with only a few files in it, obviously this killed the site because it couldnt find ANY of the modules that were installed when it loaded. Since this didnt work I attempted to uninstall a few modules i didnt think we would need any time soon and removed them from the modules directory, no go unfortunatley.

The game itself is running fine but I cant add any new modules too it currently, and if i uninstall (which i did as mentioned earlier) any of the core modules I cannot install them again either. This is my issue. Is there a method for installing modules manually?

If i generate temporary page from the modules.php file with information and an install link I am returned with badnav.php to the history(-1). The temporary code to generate the page is below (it's just a temp page, so bear with it) It was just to check output from modules.php to see if i could track down why it wasnt generating

// custom addition here - still gives badnav on install
$memrep = memory_get_usage();
echo "Used Memory: " . $memrep . "\n <br />";
echo "Module Filename: " . $shortname . ".php" . "\n <br />";
echo "Module Category: " . $moduleinfo['category'] . "\n <br />";
echo "Module Description: " . $moduleinfo['description'] . "\n <br />";
echo "Module Requires: " . $moduleinfo['requires'] . "\n <br />";
echo "<a href='modules.php?op=install&module=$shortname&cat={$moduleinfo['category']}'>Install </a>";
echo "<p />";
// end custom  sai

output below:

Used Memory: 1777624
Module Filename: additionaltattoos.php
Module Category: Village
Module Description:
Module Requires: Array
Install

Details for server are: PHP 4.3.10/Apache 2.0x/LoTGD 1.06 with no custom modules its only the core install atm.

any help would be appreciated, thanks (don't think i've forgotten to mention anything)

One of the uninstalled modules is faulty. Remove the uninstalled modules from your module folder and add them back one at a time.

When you find the module that screws you up, let us know as there might be a fix for it.

Your fix doesn't work because you need to add
Code:
addnav("","modules.php?op=install&module=$shortname&cat={$moduleinfo['category']}");

Thanks,

actually had that in there and still got stuck with badnav. At least i can output the list of uninstalled modules if nothing else

i'll look into adding these back one by one see what happens.

ye do have two servers, right? one as a "test" server, then one that will be the "live" server with the players?

tis the best piece of advice that can be offered to ye.  having the two will save ye much grief and heartache in the long run.

also, always have two admin accounts on thy servers.  that way ye can rescue thyself if needed from a badnav.

i am glad to hear that all is working well right now. enjoy customising it. do it slowly.  introduce each change one at a time. test thoroughly to see if it does what ye expect before trying another change from the core defaults. be patient. take a few days with it and ye will find in the long run it will have been well worth the time spent. both for ye and thy players.

As an aside, many many many people have installed LoGD and got it up and running... and many many people have encountered problems and managed to solve them. If you are unlucky enough to come across a problem, more than likely there is a *simple* solution. Don't go making massive changes (as you seem to have done!) until you ask or search here. If it seems difficult to fix then odds are you're going about it the wrong way =)

this is the test server atm, only discovered lotgd last week after starting to setup LORD/Usurper via telnet. All of this is still wip atm but I like the accessibility of lotgd compared to lord. As mentioned it's always the easies fixes that'll have you puzzling for hours.

In general I dont ask for help until I've exhausted all possibilities and at leastI learnt some php while i was at it so it wasnt a total loss. Its unfortunate that it came down to a breakdown in communication, frustrating but not fatal.

Again, thank you all for the help. look forward to playing this for more than 10 minutes, which is unfortunatley all i've really had a chance (personally) to do so far.
