I know that this has been done in a number of mods and forest specials already, but I thought I would share my ideas and what I plan to achieve here, perhaps to inspire you or something... I dunno Smiley

First of all, in the village I'm going to have a seperate location for each race, only accesible by that race.  Each of these locations will supply food of some form (for use with the hunger script, which is awesome!) and will also have a questing element to them.

I'm not sure exactly how the questing will work, if I had more time to work on my server the quests would probably be persistant and would change over time to give the game a storyline of sorts, but at the moment to get me going the quests will be static.  They will all either start at the race specific location or be hinted at strongly by the dialog there, and will probably all relate back to the locations as well.

On top of these locations, and also for use with the hunger script, I'm going to add in another race specific location for gathering food yourself, the fishing pond will be used for this, I'm also going to create a mine for trolls, a bakery for dwarves and possibly some sort of farm for humans, leaving the pond for elves.  These aren't confirmed yet, but unless I have a flash of inspiration thats what I'm going for.

I would like it very much if anyone had more specific questions about all this, I'm sure they will help me think about it and plan it better.  I have very little of the actual code done yet, this is just a brainstorm at the moment so I'm unlikely to answer any code questions at the moment.

You could do the village thing with just one file that shows each race a specific task using:  if $session[user][race]

A simple quest is to ask the player to find something and bring it back. Again, using one special event in the forest also race based with some odds of accomplishing the task, add a challange, dont make it too easy nor too difficult.

Once the player returns with whatever - they can be set with a field in the db: $session[user][quested]=1

Once they are quested you can use this field to open up other possiblities for that player: other area's can open or another quest can appear or other places can appear.

The possibilities are endless and limited only by your imagination.

I think this has been mentioned in an earlier thread m'dear Spider. . . but I wouldn't worry so about coding this idea. It's already coming out in LOGD 0.9.8 (seperate villages for seperate races)

As for the quests, there are several ways to go about it, it's all about how you want to structure it. Like Robert Suggests, the quests in Legendgard go by a point system that can be awarded time after time.

heh, this is low priority on my server at the moment, I'm messing around with some of the more fundamental things first, like the village :-)

so yeah, if by the time I get round to it 9.8.0 is out, I'll just have a lot less work to do, which is nice.
