After a lot of effort, I've created a guide to using the mount editor.

I've done a lot of work on the mounts on Central, and while I've helped some people by explaining how the editor works, it was suggested that I write all this stuff down.

It should be pretty comprehensive - I tried to explain all the options, as well as provide notes and comments from my experience creating mounts on Central.

I've also provided some key examples of actual expressions used in the mounts on Central.

It's available here:http://dragonprime.net/users/jcp/mountfaq.txt

It may be reformatted (converting to .txt added some serious h-scroll) and added to the knowledge base of this site eventually.

Oh, and while the focus is certainly on the mount editor, the section on Dynamic Expressions should help everywhere buffs are used - like the drink editor or in your own modules.

I hope that this proves useful and helps everyone understand the mount editor better.

I read the Mount FAQ (well done, it was quite helpful) and added a couple mounts to my game, trying to remain balanced.  When I tried to add a mount with a minion, the minion didn't seem to work.  I probably got something wrong, but I can't figure out what it is.

I was wondering if you could be persuaded to post some screen captures of some mount examples, in the mount editor page, here.  As I said, I'm particularly interested in mounts with minions, but different mounts might be helpful to other people...

Thanks.

To have a mount with a minion you need to set three values: minioncount minbadguydamage and maxbadguydamage.

The badguy will then receive $minioncount times e_rand($minbadguydamage, $maxbadguydamage) damage points Smiley

I think I'll post that link on my game to help other admins create mounts. It's very good since I couldn't find out anywhere what some fields changed...

The copy at http://dragonprime.net/index.php?page=mountfaq should be enclosed in <pre> tags, so that it's readable

How are you loading in the information? Is it .txt format or what?

The div tag didn't work.  I can't remember where I c/p'd the original text from  - it's actually been there for a few months now.

If that PM didn't send, try cutting and pasting it from here: http://dof.kitsunecrossing.com/downloads/mount_faq.txt

I had a little time on my hands, so I made it easier to work with the <pre> tag.

Perhaps this HTMLized version (attached) will be easier to read. I removed all extraneous markup (it used to be a full-fledged web page on my computer).

Very nice, White Knight. Smiley I was going to take a similar step, once I got some freetime on my hands. I think I'll help out Talisman and start formatting my Race Documentation.

Thanks guys, it's nice to know that the work is appreciated!  Smiley

And Talisman, you're welcome!  Wink  These tutorials are very beneficial for new coders and admins (at least those I know); I've referred people to them more than once.  It's great to have them here, as well as to be able to help with them.

it has been nice to see the list of docs in the resource pages section go from two to five in such a short span. i think these address so many of the questions and "how do i?" posts we see.

way to go guys! most excellent!     Smiley

A small update: the table of contents is now clickable. Don't worry, it won't (shouldn't) break the current style of the FAQs, but I'd be a little happier if the style could be put into a separate, linked style sheet...
