I have a couple of users who are experiancing trouble accessing the game due to Firefox and a 404 error I believe.

(If this is the wrong section please move it)

I am wondering if there is someway to fix this, or if infact it is thier browser.

i use firefox as my primary browser and hath no trouble whatsoever accessing any logd server.

a 404 error is a dns error saying that the site is not seen on the net and that it is offline for some reason. the browser isn't finding the ip address at the host.  perhaps there is a problem at your provider level.

most of my players use Firefox
- We actually encourage players to use Firefox because:
a. Loads pages faster than IE
b. Doesnt CAUSE errors as IE does

If your players are getting 404 errors, its due to clicking on a link for a page that doesnt exist on the server - maybe check for a mod that has a bad navigation link.

If your admin account is stuck in a bad nav and cant get to any other - you will have to log into your db, perhaps through phpmyadmin.
- Open Account table > Browse > find your admin account
- Clear the fields: output    and also   restore page
- When you log back into the game - you should see nothing but a message saying CLICK HERE which will return you to the village.
Always works for me  Smiley
- Create a 2nd admin account for yourself for emergencies like this

Thanks Robert.

And, as for the problem with the users, it was mixed communication.

They aren't receiving 404 errors, just "This page cannot be displayed" errors, while other users aren't.

The only problem i have with FireFox is for the ban listings, if you click 'click to show users; it opens a new page with nothing on it [just a white page.

I run 1.0.2, and i notice this only happens with my site, as i am a admin on a few sites.

Other than that, i never have aproblem with FF [except last night, when it wouldn't work for crud], i even used NetZero, and noticed the thing in the ban listings.

I play on a server that also has problems with FF, but they're runnning an old version, and it's heavily modified.  The problems they have are that the hotkeys don't work for FF, but work for IE.  Perhaps you should try playing your server with FF to try and duplicate the errors.  Then you would have a developers POV on them.

Like I saidm the only problem is in the user editor, a staff power. So most of the site doesn't even notice it.

I use firefox to admin my site with no problems.  Use IE for play.  That way I don't have to log out of my admin account.

Either way, I haven't had any issues with either.  More than likely it is security settings your users have.

It sounds like you have borked JavaScript in your browser. Those user links shouldn't be trying to open a new page. I have found that Firefox can be a pain to correct when something goes wrong like this - a few days ago I had my address bar sieze and a reinstall didn't fix it until I went on a deletion spree.

My suggestion is to uninstall Firefox, then to delete the folder in your Program Files and also in your Profiles - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<random string>.default . Go and here and back up your bookmarks file if necessary (it's an HTML file) then delete the whole Firefox folder before reinstalling.

Having said all this, it is still 100 times easier to reinstall than IE Cheesy
