Would it be possible to create a module that would automatically give me gold/gems if they vote at certain topsites?

thanks!

To actually track this you need to have sites that return information to you. Only the ones that allow it (as Xander indicated above) will return this information to you. You could do it for players that simply click a link to *go* to the new site but as he also pointed out, quite rightly, you'd likely be banned for doing that.

I am not aware of any released modules to track this. I know that Kendaer spent a *lot* of time coding these for Central and DragonCat and we're unlikely to distribute any code that would enable you to take votes away from us. I am sure he will speak up if he feels charitable today.

Well as SaucyWench stated, could it be maskedby just giving points to people who click on the link and that is it?

*grin* Don't worry, it would not be Central or DragonCat, I am using for the top sites Smiley it is an entirely different genre Wink

How would I go about writing a code that would offer the gold/gems for "clicking" the link?

Thanks for writing back Cheesy

While you could mask it by crediting all who click the link, it doesn't take people long to figure out that they don't actually have to vote...

You could do this pretty easily by making a simple module that does the following:

1.  Display Vote for X on Y
2.  Link to runmodule.php?module=yourmodule&followlink=Y
3.  When your run function is called, give them the gems/gold and then use either javascript or the php header redirect function to send them to the link (to pop it up in a new window, I'd recommend javascript)

Yes, you could do this, and I gaurentee you that a lot of people will get rewarded and NEVER actually vote.

I strongly recommend that this isn't the right way to do it.

The right way is to work with sites like topwebgames which do provide a callback when a valid vote is accepted. (apexwebgames does as well but their callback won't work correctly out of the box with logd -- long involved story as to why).

This of course has the drawback of someone trying to vote and their vote not being accepted (usual reason is they are on a dynamic IP and someone else voted from that IP already that week) and thus not being rewarded.

No, I will not be freely releasing the code that I wrote which is used to handle this for dragoncat and central.  However, if someone is interested in this code make me a serious offer and I might license you a copy under some terms to be negotiated.   Mainly because this code was a pain in the ass to get right, and I don't want every logd under the sun registering at TWG (or any other site)

and if you really wanted to be cool you could do with adsense but you'd have to parse out the adsense links before hand
