I think this belongs here, i'm not sure, it can be moved if not. It also happened in v1.

When i tried to install, i got a 500 error. Kendaer told me it was a Hosting problem, so i talked to my host, and switched databases, and it worked. now its happening again.

My question is, what is changing in the permissions for the new releases? cause its somthing in the coding i'm sure of, cause my host can't figure it out.

500 is a permissions denied.  That's something controlled by your host not the game.

Maybe your host changed something on his end.  500/permissions errors are related to folder/file access permissions, right?  What are yours set to?

I'm not sure what they are set to. As far as i know, i have full permission. They couldn't figure it out last time. It worked perfectly on all 9.8 pre releases, so i am thinking somthing changed in the code.

You should be able to see what your folders and files are set to using either your site's file manager or your ftp program.  They'll be something like 744, 666, and so on.

That's the permissions for your game folder?  You need 755

There are three values in *nix permissions. They are Read, Write and Execute. Read is a 4... Write 2, Execute 1. The three are added up to get a number from 0 to 7. There are also three levels... they are Owner, Group, World.

In the number you mentioned (755) that means that the Owner (you) has 7 - permission to do Read, Write, and Execute (4 + 2 + 1). The second digit is Group (in this case not really used) and the last one is World (basically, everyone who doesn't have special permission) and because it's 5, it must be Read and Execute (4 + 1) but NOT Write. By Permission I am not referring to game admin stuff either. Just file access, essentially.

It would be a REALLY, REALLY good idea to do some Google research on permissions and linux. Like, Really. I don't believe someone should run a server without understanding them... if you set the permissions wrong you could easily give a hacker the keys to your car, so to speak.

OK so it didn't save my life. I've got it set to 755 and it still gives me the 500 error.

Do you have an .htaccess file in your folder?  Try removing it and see if things work.

And what happens if you remove it long enough to run the install?
