This site is in need of a basic FAQ that new users can peruse before asking the much repeated questions. It could then be stickied in the Realms chat section perhaps.

ie:
Why do I get blah error?  (php memory)
Why do I get a blank page? (php memory)
Why doesn't this mod work? (php memory)
Why does my mom have hair on her chin? (php memory)

etc etc

Maybe this thread would be a good start to post  what you think should be included in the most FAQ and then someone could compile it. I will if no one else volunteers but I will need a cookie. White Choc macadamian nut is my favorite Wink

It's in the mail.  Start compiling.   Grin

Seriously.   Shocked

No...really seriously...  Wink

An installation FAQ based on the commonly encountered problems is exactly what is needed, and has been on my "to do" list for quite some time.  Unfortunately, my to do list isn't progressing quickly.  If you're willing to collect the pertinent posts, solutions and collate them into a usable document, it will receive prominent billing on this site!

OK-If people will be kind enough to post ( or IM me) questions (with answers please) that they feel should be included. Here is what I have so far (its really rough) Also please make me aware of any wrong info I may have included

    • What do I need to run a Legend of  The Green Dragon Server?

      You will need access to a MySQL database and a PHP hosting
      location to run this game.  Basic intelligence is also required
      [/s]

      • How do install Legend of the Green Dragon?

        Extract the files into the directory where you will want the code to live.

        BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE, read and understand the license that this game is released under.
         You are legally bound by the license if you install this
        game on a publically accessible web server!

        MySQL Setup:
        Setup should be pretty straightforward, create the database, create
        an account to access the database on behalf of the site; this account
        should have full permissions on the database.

        After you have the database created, point your browser at the location you have the logd files installed at and load up installer.php (for instance,
        if the files are accessible as http://logd.dragoncat.net, you will want to
        load http://logd.dragoncat.net/installer.php in the browser).  The installer
        will walk you through a complete setup from the ground up.  Make sure to
        follow all instructions![/s]

        • When installing I get "LOCK TABLES settings WRITE Access denied for user:"

          Talk to your hosting provider. You do not have permissions to lock tables.
          Without those permissions the game cannot and will not run.

          This is an issue between you and your hosting provider

        • I am getting empty pages, or 'this page cannot be displayed' errors

           If you are getting empty pages, or 'this page cannot be displayed' errors, try this and increase the memory limit on your php installation.

          There are three routes to do this.

          Route 1: Create a file called 'prefixes.php'. Type the following within it:

          ini_set("memory_limit","16M");

          Save the file. Place the file in the 'lib' directory of your LotGD installation.

          Route 2: Create a file called '.htaccess'. Type the following within it:

          <FilesMatch "\.(php|html?)$">
          php_value memory_limit 16M
          </FilesMatch>

          Save the file. Place the file in your main LotGD directory.

          Route 3: If you have access to a file called 'php.ini', open it up. Look for a value somewhere called memory_limit Change the number after it to 16.

          If the value isn't in there, add the following:

          memory_limit 16M

          Save the file.
          If the number 16 doesn't work, you can increase the number. Some users have found 20, 24, 40, and even 64 to help. 16 is recommended for less memory-hungry installations
          [/s]
          • How do I upgrade Legend of The Green Dragon?

            Download the latest version from (insert link)
            Using your FTP program upload all the files and folders.
            Login using your admin account.
            Read and follow the instructions!
            [/s]
            • How do I install a module?

                * Aquire a Zipping Program such as:
                        o WinRAR
                        o WinZIP
                  * Then, download the file.
                  * Have an FTP program and upload the file (.php) into your modules folder (an offshoot of your main LotGD folder)
                  * Once uploaded, head to your Superuser Grotto and go to "Manage Modules"
                  * Then, find the module you just uploaded in your "Uninstalled Modules" Section
                  * Either Check It (Grouping added in 1.0.0) or just click "Install"
                  * Then, either configure the settings to your needs, or just activate the module
                  * Remember to have fun with it.
              [/s]
              • I am having trouble installing a module

                Search the forum for the relevent thread/discussion of that module. If you cannot find your answer there it is best to post your question within that thread and maybe someone can help you. Do not start a new topic until you have searched thouroughly or ye run the risk of being whipped and beaten
                [/s]

              {From Talisman:  I'll strike out the entries which have been appended to the FAQ.  Any suggested changes should be submitted through a new post on this thread.}

    Alright...I've started a new area in the FAQ devoted to game setup and troubleshooting.  Chaos has started compiling the commonly encountered problems/questions, but feedback from everyone will aid us in developing this section properly.

    The more we can include here, the less we should see of repetitive threads throughout the board.  Suggestions for other FAQ areas are also welcomed.

    I'll also be reviewing the existing FAQs and updating them as required.

    Hehe... Due to a current situation:

    There should be a hint to create at least a second admin account...

    Something along the lines of a "Recommended Practices" list...

    Have a backup admin account
    Test and develop on a development server before making changes to your live game
    Be careful what administrative rights you give, and who you give them to
    Game balance considerations
    Ban Brendan...

    Anything else?

    Ban Brendan...

    that should just be part of what the installer does Smiley

    which would be funny if he ever tried to host hos own and the game would auto ban him

    ahh good times

    • What is PHP? How do I backup my Database?

      If you need help with PHP go away. Or at least go here php.net
      The best way to backup your database is by using one of the many SQL management tools. An excellent choice can be found at  phpmyadmin.net
