Has anyone got this to work?  I installed 9.8-pr8 and ran the sql updates from 9.7 to 9.8 and that went fine, ran modules.sql, again fine.  Then I ran the pr12 installer and updated from pr8 to pr12 with no errors but afterwards I can not login.  Its always wrong username/password.  All I really need to do is convert my user accounts from .9.7 to .9.8 as I already have .9.8pr11 installed and working fine.  Any ideas?

Were you using the encrypted passwords mod for .97?

When you ran the update from PR8 to PR12, did you MAKE SURE to select PR8 from the dropdown where you choose upgrade or fresh install?  If you did not do this then your passwords got encrytped an extra time in the database and there isn't any way to recover  them unless you have a backup.

I'm sure that I did.  I'm going to run through the process again from the beginning and see what happens.

I've run the upgrade from .9.7 to .9.8pr8 and am able to login fine except I had some problems with newday and the weather semaphore, but that is really not important as that works on my .9.8 server already.  At this point I am able to login and things for the most part are fine.  I am going to run the update from pr8 to pr12 now making 100% sure that I select "I should update from 0.9.8 pre8.

-EDIT
The install went much better this time.  The only error I am getting is:

Code:
INSERT INTO settings (setting,value) VALUES ("newdaySemaphore","0000-00-00 00:00:00")
Duplicate entry 'newdaySemaphore' for key 1

But that is not important at this point as my .9.8 install is working already so this won't be an issue.  All I have left to do is export my accounts and import into the live database.

We should sticky a topic called installer issues for the current prerelease so we don't have twenty new topics.

Also as a general rule of advice, is you have a failed install, you may need to delete some SQL tables before reinstalling.  Let's say for instance that you did a fresh install with Prerelease 12 and it failed to import data for the creatures.  If you decide to reinstall, when it issues the Create Table `creates` command, that command will actually delete the table rather than create it.  Create Table on an existing table will actually delete it.

Is there any way to have the installer check for this sort of thing, or ask if the previous installation failed?

The table creation code works correctly if a table already exists Ender.
The only time it will blow away a table is if you tell it 'fresh install'.
Create table on top of a table which already exists is an error, it will NOT create an empty table (at least on any sane/functioning install of mysql)

I wasn't trying to knock your code.

I was installing an upgrade to some forum software, and accidentally blew away half my datbase.  Luckily I had a backup.  I was told by the author of the forum software that in SQL, a CREATE TABLE command will wipe out a table if it already exists.

The author of the forum software was wrong.  I wasn't offended btw, nor did I think you were knocking my code. I was just trying to correct your wrong statements.   People have a ... tendancy ... to believe anything they see on a web page and I wanted to head off the spread of wrong information Smiley
