http://mastaile.mine.nu/addnews-098.zip

I'm stunned no one's thought of or done this but the more I thought about it, the more I realized how handy it would be and how much I needed.

I'm a very friendly and social administrator, I hang around the forums and keep my users updated on pretty much everything I do, though sometimes it's hard to let them know there are any new additions to the forum.

Using the villagenav's module, I kept wishing that I could drop in a temporary note as a news item, rather than having to do something as permanent as a notice every time.  Besides, using a notice for that is awkward, too many navs ...

So, I threw this together.

Basically, it hooks into Daily News and checks for a superuser flag.  If a superuser flag is present then it allows the person to 'Add News'.  It makes a news report with their name and the date that they made that news report on.

So now administrators can make news reports.

I've probably missed this somewhere in LoGD though.  It has to be there somewhere... doesn't it?  Someone had to have thought of this before I did.

They have... there are two other modules just like it.

Sorry Rowne, but you are about two months too late.  Huh

~ Admin Notices

I covered this one above.  Admin Notices are very static and not good for quickie newsposts but more serverwide messages.  They don't have an auto-timeout of any sort.  That and they don't use addnews();.  I love Admin Notices and I use it on my server but it wasn't the function I was looking for for the task at paw (alerting my users to new forum topics).

~ Tholgare's Addnews

This seems to be more similar but it doesn't use addnews(); either...

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I think this is all my fault however.  I'm pretty sure it is, I wasn't clear on its function.  The point of this module is that it uses addnews(); which doesn't give the news in question too much importance but if used with village News it has just the right level of importance to grab user attention before being scrolled away in due time.  It can also be seen on the Daily News page.

It's handy too because it adds the addnews(); adder as an addnav (argh, alitteration) on the Daily News page.

If you do things like running your own manual quests and you want to add a news event for the winner, this is a good way to do it.  Or ... for any other use you might want manual access to addnews(); for.

Anyway, I'm sorry that wasn't clear.  I just... suck at explaining things, sorry.

I know there was one that I missed... This is the one that I was using and does what I thought the other two did, but is what yours did, so I referenced those.

Arune's does.  Sorry Arune ...

See, that was the point specifically, that I wanted to use addnews(); exactly and nothing else.  I honestly did look (and look and look) but I couldn't find anything that stated a specific use of addnews(); so I wrote my own.

Sorry about that.  I kinda figured there had to be somebody though.

Been using a system like this on 0.9.7 for quite a while Rowne, but I'll probably be using yours for 0.9.8. . . if it makes you feel better.

It's not that, Strider ... honestly it isn't.  It's just that I thought that no one had done anything like this.  I wouldn't have gone out of my way to code it otherwise, after all, I am deep in the bowels of my Skinning and Tanning module at the moment trying to figure that one out but I felt it was something I needed to keep my userbase informed and ... I couldn't find anything of the sort anywhere.

See, that was the thing, I coudln't see anything that cited addnews(); specifically, that's why I did it.  I'm not trying to draw attention to my variant or anything like that.  In fact, it's probably best to use Arune's, since there was one around before mine.

Nonetheless, I'm continuing to update mine for ease of use and looks.  Simply because I've gotten used to the way this one works now.

http://mastaile.mine.nu/addnews-098.zip

1.0.1 is just a small update where I added a preview function, I'm not going to do much more than that though because I don't want to introduce bloat, I wanted to keep this one small, simple and most importantly, clean.  I'm not very good with HTML forms though so if anyone could tell me how I'd get both those buttons on the same line, I'd be greatful.  It doesn't look too bad as is, however.

One thing I will note is that now all the buttons have 'accesskey' settings for even greater lazyness.

Anyway, if you want to use it Strider, that might be a nicer version to utilize.
