Some of my players are complaining that they are locked out from adding commentary because they have hit their limit.  How can I set that to unlimited?

Thanks!

Im my small mind I can't remember there is. But others just have to post enough to 'knock' some of thier posts of the immediately viewwing message board. Or you can delete commentary that belongs to them..

Its really not that tough to increase it but I dont know about making it unlimited. Just open commentary.php from your /logd/lib/ folder and in every instance you can find:

(round($limit/2,0)

Change it to:

(round($limit/1,0)

I did this and it doubled the posting limit. Dont set it to 0 though or it will give you errors. I would rather double it than set it to unlimited. be careful though this is a core file as Talisman mentioned and as always make a backup of the file before you change it so you can restore it if you have any problems.

the limit is half of the visible posts on the board so doubling it effectively gives you unlimited posts. there shouldn't normally be problems with the filter if there are a few people talking anyway.

I concur. Actually, in my humble opinion it is a really DUMB idea to increase the post limit. It allows someone to join your game and spam the screen with child porn (or whatever) links and nothing will stop them. If you're not online at the time they'd be unstoppable. The post limit is there so that no one person can dominate the entire place.

When we have complaints from players about the post limit on Central, we remind them that one person should not really be dominating the entire page. Most will concur that they are hogging the place when half the comments are theirs.

My problem was with only 2 people talking they would run out of posts. My game is new and theres not alot of players yet and when they run out of posts they cant just hang out and talk. And the change I made still limits it to 26 posts which isnt a whole page of commentary so its not unlimited. Im sure I could set it back once I have more players but it is useful right now. I also regularly monitor my game and have other admins/mods there so anything offensive would be dealt with quickly. Though I have played at a few unmonitored games where this would be possible. If you dont have time to monitor and participate in your own game its not going to be very sucessful.

We miss you Six!  Kiss And I wasnt reffering to you.  Cool Ive been playing on your game for almost 2 years and 2 versions. Even if youre not there someone else is.

But I have been on games where the main admin setup the game then forgot about it.

I setup logd on my localhost and played around with it. Through some files I was able to increase the post limit up to 50, however, the amount of commentaries shown also switched to 50. Tongue

Just a warning... this may end up being a problem with Hoj's Restaurant....

You see, that module is designed for 1 on 1 conversation, so it may end up becoming an issue.
