1  Game Administration, Installation and Configuration / The Idea Place / Re: suggestion to create a Wonka-challenge, based on the Medallion Contest? on: January 20, 2019, 03:13:30 AM
I was thinking of such contest, because I often have no much time during the limited time of medallion contest to search for medallions. I would suggest to follow the procedure you described above. I also would programm the module so that it can be themed otherwise: Wonka theme or some other chosen theme. But I think you understood the principles of what I was thinking about. I also would use a village shop as point to start, I also would it make possible to make a section in the preferences, so that an user can see if he found a wrapper of chocolate bar (like you have a rune scavenging setting). If someone of you needs me to write the scenario, you can send me a mail and we can discuss the issue by mail in detail. Thanks in advance. Best, WW
ps: a first draft for a possible Scenario:

The Kiosk

You enter the kiosk and see that there are many sweets and some newspapers in store. You read the headline of the nearest newspaper:

"FIVE CHILDREN ALLOWED TO ENTER WILLY WONKA'S FACTORY"

the lady behind the counter smiles at you and tells you an interesting story about this rumor.

"Yes my dear. Willy Wonka, the famous chocolatier who has closed his factory for many years, permits five lucky children to visit the factory. They may visit every corner of the factory and see how the sweets and chocolate bars are produced nowadays. If you buy a newspaper, you can read the story for yourself and perhaps try to enter the factory."

You ponder if you want to enter the Wonka Challenge or not.
The lady continues:

"A newspaper costs 5 gold."

You look in your gold purse and decide:

"No, I don't buy a newspaper."

The lady waves you goodbye.

"I buy a newspaper"

The lady takes the gold and hands you a newspaper.

You unfold the newspaper and read the story about the Wonka challenge.
"Five golden tickets are hidden in the wrappers of five Wonka Bars. They could be everywhere. When the five golden tickets are found, the challenge is over and the five lucky players who found a golden ticket, can enter Wonka's Factory for x weeks." So, go and search for chocolate bars, or buy one at the Kiosk. You can find or buy one single chocolate bar per game-day."

You ask the lady how much a chocolate bar costs.

"Well, my dear, a bar costs as much as a sweet at the regular shop. You surely can search for bars, then they are free. You also can try to search for a wrapper outside the shop or look in the dustbin outside the shop, but be carefull while looking in the bin. This can be a smelly mess."

(if player has bought a newspaper earlier during the Wonka challenge:

You enter the kiosk and see that there are many sweets and some newspapers in store. You read the headline of the nearest newspaper:

"THE FIRST/SECOND/THIRD/FOURTH/FINAL GOLDEN TICKET HAS BEEN FOUND."

You unfold the earlier bought newspaper and read the continued story about the Wonka challenge.
"There are still four/three/two golden tickets hidden in the wrappers of four/three/two Wonka Bars. They could be everywhere. When the five golden tickets are found, the challenge is over and the five lucky players who found a golden ticket, can enter Wonka's Factory for x weeks." So, go and search for chocolate bars and wrappers, or buy a chocolate bar at the Kiosk. You can find or buy one single chocolate bar (or wrapper) per game-day." Wrappers only can be found.

If the five tickets are found, the newspaper reads:

"The final golden ticket has been found. Now, the challenge is over. The following five players have access to Wonka's Factory: x x x x x.  these five lucky players can enter Wonka's Factory for x weeks."

Possibility: if one of the lucky players can't enter the factory during the limited time (holiday, ...) he or shee can decide to gift the golden ticket to a clan member who was unsuccessfull.

Buying / finding a chocolate bar":
You look at the chocolate bars and decide to buy one. You just found a chocolate bar. As you have bought / found the chocolate bar, a skinny boy taps on your arm. He looks hungry, nearly starving.

"Please, madam/sir, can I have the chocolate bar in your hand? I haven't eaten for almost 2 days."

What would you do?

a: Give the chocolate bar to the skinny boy:

Smiling, you hand the boy the chocolate bar. He looks thankfully and unwraps the bar. He hands you back the wrapper and you see an ordinary wrapper/a golden ticket.

effect: increase of good alignment.

b: Eat the chocolate bar yourself
You simply ignore the begging child and open the wrapper to eat the chocolate bar yourself. You look closely at the wrapper and see an ordinary wrapper/a golden ticket.

effect: decrease of good alignment.

Looking for chocolate bars or wrappers:

a: look in a bin:
You don't want to search all day for a wrapper, so you try your luck at the bin. You peer inside and suddenly are engulfed in a horrible stench. You lose a charm point and a turn.

b: look for chocolate bars or wrappers (like the current medallions)

Turn in the medallions should be changed to "turn in the chocolate bar wrappers"
Chocolate bars can't be turned in, if you find a bar, the little skinny child turns up to beg for it. see above.
If you have a wrapper that's not a golden ticket, you can chose to throw it in the bin (in Kiosk) or simply drop it. If you put the wrapper (not golden ticket) in the bin, you clean the mess of others and you get a charm; if you drop it, you cause some mess, a child sees you doing it and go and tell the villagers. You lose a charm.

If all tickets are found, the Kiosk changes into Wonka's factory or another shop. This factory or shop is only accessible for the players with the golden ticket.

2  Game Administration, Installation and Configuration / The Idea Place / suggestion to create a Wonka-challenge, based on the Medallion Contest? on: January 14, 2019, 10:57:58 AM
Hi, I recently watched the film "Charlie and the chocolate factory", in which Mr. Willy Wonka launched a contest to win access to his famous factory. I don't know if it's possible for a game to have multiple contest running on their site? But mostly the contests are limited in time. I was thinking about a contest in which there are only 5 tickets to get access, hidden in sweets wrappings. An user can access the contest by buying a newspaper for +-5 gold. After the player bought the newspaper, he or she can start to search for chocolate bars. You only can find or buy one bar per day (a bar costs as much as a regular sweet, but isn't counted as a sweet), if you buy one, there will be a little child asking you for the bought bar, helping the child raises alignment, not helping =punishment; if the child unwraps the chocolate bar, it gives the wrapper to you. You also can find one wrapper per day. In the game, only 5 players can get access to the factory of Wonka, that's the prize.  The factory of Wonka could be a place for beta testing, or eventually another sweets shop, or an extra entrance to the existing sweets shop. If you want me to think of a real Wonka factory game: than being greedy will be punished, not obeying Wonka's instructions will be punished, too. What do you think of this suggestion? Best, WW

Pfew! this sounded complex and difficult to me, a totally not-coder. But if this interaction was learning experience for all of you, I'll be happy I shared this idea to you all. Hoping that both of you are having fun working together. Best, WW

I posted the suggestions in the original post at the beginning of this topic: make the answers randomly placed and not in a fixed order, so that the correct one is not always at the same place in the series (see the example I gave above) and add some more difficult words like sincerely, necessary and exercise (it's possible I already misspelled them). Well, if the coder of the original module is still active over here, please consider this as a request to update this module. If the original coder isn't active over here anymore, I suggest this as a new project? Best, WW
7  Game Administration, Installation and Configuration / The Idea Place / concerning the spelling bee on: October 02, 2018, 02:31:34 AM
Hi, I often encounter the spelling bee during gaming. But I found out that the questions become easy to answer if you can remember the order of the answers. I will copy an example:
"Choose

1)insuficient

2)insuficiant

3)insufficient

4)insufficiant

The Spelling Bee
Question One

Choose the correct spelling of the following word:

What is it called when you don't have enough of something?

1)insuficient
2)insuficiant
3)insufficient
4)insufficiant"
In this example, the correct answer is always 3.
I think it would be more challenging if the answers are randomly placed themselves; so you have to pay attention on how the answers are written down and not remember at which place the correct answer is.

I also would suggest to include more words. I personally always have difficulty with sincerely or exercise. It's possible I spelled them incorrectly. In French Exercise also exists and as soon as you see the words both in English and French, the confusion is starting. I suppose there are more difficult words in English.
In the current spelling bee game I easily can win the contest, and yes, it's frustrating to lose. But I like the idea of learning things while gaming.
Just a suggestion to make this sub-game more challenging.

Perhaps this is not possible to programm easily?

8  Game Administration, Installation and Configuration / The Idea Place / Re: forest and healing hut not available in hallowe'n village on: October 02, 2018, 02:23:43 AM
I indeed was talking aobout Esoterra or Xanterra (on your site) and I was not sure of it, but indeed you have a  desert in Xanterra on your site. The usual forest on the Harry-Potter-themed website I often visut, is already called "the forbidden forest" but there is a town in the hp-books in which a graveyard is mentioned: Little Hangleton was the hometown of Voldemort's father and grandparents, and Voldemort was reborn on the graveyard where his father was burried. There are cruel creatures in several books: a snake that's hidden in a death woman's corpse (hp-7), inferi (death people who are doing a dark wizard's bidding =hp-6), the elves that are described in the disk world series of Terry Pratchett, the icy creatures that are haunting the northern countries in the "song of ice and fire", ... Perhaps this desert or tundra should get more attention and perhaps needs some extra hallowe''n forest events specifically designed for this forest itself? If there's some interest, I surely can write some scenario's? You can mail me by using my gmail-account with more concrete info or questions what you need and I'll try to help. Best, WW
9  Game Administration, Installation and Configuration / The Idea Place / forest and healing hut not available in hallowe'n village on: October 01, 2018, 09:01:45 AM
Hi I wonder why there's no forest and healing hut section in the hallowe'n village. Or is this depending on which game you're playing? I'm not sure if the hallowe'n village doesn't allow this sections, but I suppose that there are creepy creatures that can haunt such hallowe'en forests. Best, WW

I'm afraid I have no real affiinity with the legend of the green dragon, but I surely can try to help. If previous ideas I posted could be of any help or give you an indication if I can help, you surely can mail me. I'm not on the forum daily, I prefer mailing. The previously posted ideas were based on what I saw on other games or read in books. I read some of the parts of Pratchett's Disk world series, I read the lord of the rings of Tolkien, parts of the Narnia cyclus, the parts of "the song of ice and fire" that are translated in Dutch, I read the twilight cyclus. ... If you want me to write a kind of scenario for a module or forest event, ... you can mail me with concrete things about what you want. If the above is rubbish to you, no problem. Best, WW
11  Coding Support / Coding Support Desk / Re: Witches Garden/Potion Brewing for Magical Arena on: September 13, 2018, 04:11:41 AM
I found the battle arena thing that's similar to the battle arena at hl: it's currently in Zebulon on your current game; it's not pvp related. I think the potions we were talking about can't be used within this arena. But I tested out the potions module, and that's accessible for screenreader users. So, being short: an exchange system for potion ingredients would be great. Best, WW
12  Modules, Themes and other customizations for your game / Completed Modules for version 1.x.x / Re: Ocean Quest by DaveS V5.25 on: May 11, 2018, 12:51:08 AM
for the follow-up, after some frustrating mails (sorry TgTarheel) we (we means TgTarheel, a screenreader specialist and me) could find out that the thing to find the 4th piece of the royal decree should be accessible for screenreader users. It's just a matter of looking at the correct place. The only thing I'm still puzzling is, what's on the page "hints" after clicking on "about ocean quest" I only can see the text "this is a good example of a hint" or something like that. But I don't see an example or something else besides that thext on the "hints"-page. But the decree should be findable completely when you use a screenreader. Hope this helps. Best, WW
13  Modules, Themes and other customizations for your game / Completed Modules for version 1.x.x / Re: Ocean Quest by DaveS V5.25 on: May 01, 2018, 11:51:43 AM
I answered the private message: the most important thing to know is, if the part of the site is reachable by using the arrow-keys and if the text I have to find is not an image of a text but a text, text-based content, then it should be readable and reachable by a screenreader.

On the old Pottermore website there was a game included in which we could visit the books and chapters, several important scenes were accessible and within these moments or scenes you could collect several items. I don't know how seeing people saw the items, but I e.g. saw "collect" or "salt and pepper pot" and when I saw such words on strange places, I tried to use enter or space key (of keyboard) to activate the collectible objects. Sometimes it was necessary to open a drawer or let explode a cracker or open a cupboard. If this was the case, I could not find the objects (as seeing people did this by using the mouse). But when I switched off javascript I could find these collectibles. I could find almost all collectibles by doing so. The other animated stuff was inaccessible for me. But I found out many seeing players had difficulties in finding these collectibles. I unfortunately don't know how the developers of that game on Pottermore made these collectibles and can't explain how to do such stuff, as I can explain you how I use a screenrader, but I can't explain how a seeing person saw the website.

I wish I had the knowledge for answering all these questions. I only know that flash-based content or images etc. aren't accessible. Perhaps the developers of nvda www.nvaccess.org or the people who wrote this article could help? http://www.thisisinsider.com/how-blind-people-use-smartphones-2017-2
I understand you don't want to take away the fun for the seeing people. I only want to get the chance to participate in the fun, too. Best, WW

Thanks for the help. Now I have to find the notary. But as this is part of the game, I won't ask for help. But knowledge of the real life doesn't seem to help over here. No notary at the jail, not in the inn, not in dwellings or marriage section, ... Best and thanks for the help, but it wasn't my intention to do it this way, because as I said, it isn't meant to do it with the help of an admin. The module itself should permit the user to find it at its own. Best, WW
