1  Game Administration, Installation and Configuration / Game Administration Chat / Re: Free Cloud Backup/Storage services that offer FTP? on: March 24, 2013, 12:58:47 AM
Could you use the API for dropbox or SkyDrive or another such service instead?
2  Village Square / DragonPedia (Wiki) Discussions / Re: Wiki appears to be down on: February 19, 2013, 03:43:56 PM
*snorts*
I think the aliens delayed the next release enough already. Judging by how long it's been since the last one, I would say the wiki won't be up for another year or so... xD
3  Village Square / General Discussion Area / Re: Help learning PHP and running an online game on: February 03, 2013, 08:44:22 PM
W3Schools is a good starting point, and a good reference. Just don't rely on everything they say, because, like practically everyone else, they often make mistakes.
CodeAcademy is a great site I highly recommend, though yes, they do not currently have a PHP track (I recommend you send Eric Weinstein an email if you'd like them to start one, expressing your interest in it. The more interest there is, the more likely they are to start one. I sent one offering to create courses for it.)
Anyway, back to the actual topic (which, I note, is from quite a few years ago.) If you are looking for an active forum, good luck. I haven't seen a game written in PHP with an active forum other than this one in quite some time... these types of games are dying out... Kinda makes me wonder why I've been working on writing a new one... Good luck in your PHP quest, and let me know if you have any questions, as I am more than happy to answer them.

I'm not really certain what you are trying to do, or why you were trying to edit the core to do so. Almost everything you could possibly want can be done through modules. Especially something like you seem to be doing.
Want to give us an idea of what your code looks like? That will make it a lot easier for us to answer your question.

5  Modules, Themes and other customizations for your game / Completed Modules for version 1.x.x / Re: Discussion: New Years Countdown on: December 05, 2012, 07:28:52 PM
Actually in my plans. I'll release that separately though, as this one is specifically intended for New Years. I am kinda thinking of adding other New Years-related features, such as a ball drop...
But thanks for the suggestion. Smiley

Or just post two more times. 5 posts to PM.
8  Core Code Development Discussions / RAID! (Core Code Bug Reports and Patches) / Re: DST Bug on: November 03, 2012, 05:11:08 PM
Joy. time is circular, and we have once again returned to this very issue.
What are people planning on doing this year? If someone wants to come out with an authoritative patch for this, I'd be very happy with them cause then I don't have to write one.

Easier to just run in Raw PHP. Or fix to use the actual db_prefix and run as Raw SQL.

Nice! May I have a copy please?
11  Game Administration, Installation and Configuration / The Idea Place / Re: Popup Bios on: October 09, 2012, 07:54:18 PM
I look forward to it, CMJ. Might try out using your fork on a server or two, see if it gets more play than a regular 1.1.2. I've given up hope on 1.2.0 ever being completed...
12  Coding Support / Coding Support Desk / Re: Input changes between pages on: September 28, 2012, 03:12:46 PM
Why can't you just compare the pref to the value of the form input?
13  Coding Support / Coding Support Desk / Re: Input changes between pages on: September 28, 2012, 02:39:54 PM
Users can edit it though. Just as a warning. You'd be better off storing it to some kind of temporary storage, or even a cookie. OR, you could encrypt and salt the value, and compare it against a salted encryption of theirs. That's the only way I can think of to use a hidden field and still ensure that they can't tamper with it without viewing your source. So in a mod, I would make the salt variable. Perhaps depending on a server value?
14  Village Square / General Discussion Area / Re: help..... i cant find a module i need. on: September 27, 2012, 07:33:54 PM
I see your point.
15  Village Square / General Discussion Area / Re: Theme Poll on: September 27, 2012, 07:32:41 PM
@Aeolus
I believe Harry Potter and the Inheritance Sequence are similarly copyrighted, and yet those are the two most successful themes I've seen on LoGDs.
@KaosKaizer
I don't believe anyone is running an Inheritance Sequence site currently... so it's an option...
I did notice you had taken Legend of the Blue TARDIS down... I had hoped it would work out... But I do remember a lot of ideas we had had for it. Should I choose to do it, I certainly would appreciate your help, along with that of several other of the more experienced mostly for translation and modification. Thank you for the offer.
I'd love to make my own theme, and see it be successful, however I don't feel my creativity is on that kind of level. Perhaps with a lot of guidance from one more so...
@Buruche
I still haven't gotten around to reading those books/watching that show. Still in the midst of a few other series at the moment. As awesome as those may be, I would obviously not have the knowledge required to make it work well.
