Title: Saucy's Kitchen
Post by: SaucyWench on August 12, 2004, 08:35:25 AM
Proving that none of the Central staff have oversized egos (or hats) this is Saucy's Kitchen. After nagging Kendaer for six months to code it for me, I finally listened to him ("Sauce, code it yourself.").

Kudos to Kendaer and to Deimos for the mops and buckets they took to the alpha versions. For your entertainment here is the final chainsaw-polished version by moi.

*xheers for Saucy* I bet you were waiting for someone to comment, right?

Well, I liked what I saw on my server. Way to go!

Your download string should probably be
"download"=>"http://dragonprime.net/users/SaucyWench/kitchen.zip"

and you should probably release this as kitchen.php inside a zip file so that people don't forget that you need to rename the file to kitchen.php before sticking it in the modules directory.  As it is, people will forget and you will eventually get errors.

You should probably have information there when they gain gems, turns, etc, or lose them letting them know what has occured.  Also, you should debuglog() any gain/loss of gems.

Hrm. That is the message you would get if it had the wrong file name. You might want to check you have it as kitchen.php .

I have just made a small edit to the code to make it interface with a new mod that I am beta testing right now. The only real difference is that the player picks up and keeps the feather left on the plate by Lauri if they happen to get the crow cake. The other module will check to see if the player has this feather.

Is lonny aware of this mod... it would be nice to have it linked in with his hunger mod

He would be, yes, because Petra is based on the Kitchen's code. And the kitchen has been in the core since Pre Release 2. I think. Maybe even 1.

Of course he is. He did after all do the custom tats for Petra, and they are "so" linked together. ^-^

*laughs*

Sichae would be referring to Lauri's feather, which appears in both mods.

I can only conclude that since Lonny worked on Petra that he's seen the entire core mod. The kitchen, however, is really not about food. It's just a cookie cutter module that in essence is only for content. I'm great at copy and paste =P

Of course, you could coalesce the two together so they work seamlessly... or you could put a health and safety warning up in Saucy's bar noting that those foodstuffs are of no nutritional value whatsoever.  That they won't quell hunger and you could mention their strange side effects.  If you wanted to be in the spirit of LoGD then you could also make up some health and safety board and playfully condemn the place on these factors by stating that only the brave would eat such ponderables (and this could be emphasized with pride, through extra punctuation or random underlining).  By adding such a notice you'd picque their curiousity towards what these effects might be but you'd remove any false expectations that the edibles there would lower their hunger meter.

You could do that...

...I did that.  *Coughs.*

Because it is a core module I do not know if the LOGD team would want to put in "3rd party" module support....   My suggestion is a hook in the kitchen module so that the hunger module can hook the kitchen and do it's own calculations.....  I will have to look deeper into this.....
