Title: The Banners of your Realm
Post by: strider on February 16, 2004, 12:49:42 PM
Well, it seems no one wants to be the first to post in a new area, so let's do a quick role call. Less than 12 hours and it seems a decent selection of the 50 patches originally on SourceForge have been placed on DRAGONPRIME.

Very cool. . .

So what realms are contributing to this project. Everyone is building their own empire on some part of this world wide internet. Where are you from and how fares the realms abroad?

Well geez I feel stupid, I didn't come up with some cool name for my realm.... I was a BBS Sysop who ran LORD, so when I found the project I was pretty excited.  I downloaded it, installed mysql and proceded to configure everything.  I really put it up for a decent game for my kids to play, and it has gone from there.   I have since learned some php and have been working on add-ons mods ever since.  Our LOGD site is on our company site Ps & Qs Computing.  We keep it family friendly and have a good time.

The closest I have to a banner would be this site...DragonPrime...

I stumbled into LoGD while looking for sample snippets of code to develop my own thing (which I still haven't done) and found it somewhat...er...addictiv e.  My main 'residence' is Legendgard, and when strider told me about the need for this site...well...we all contribute however we are able.  :)

I also used to run a BBS with LORD and LORD ][, not to mention PTEOS.

I like the IGM system in LORD ][, so I made one for LoGD ;p

I've been playing LotGD since it was sitting on a Sourceforge server, adding downloaded specials after I got .9.6 installed and upgraded to .9.7+, and now I've moved on to changing the code and adding things downloads just can't give.
My server is currently pretty damn empty (read: I'm the only regular), but its at lgd.tod-online.com (http://lgd.tod-online.com): Domarr's Gate
Planning on adding more villages (one for each race), a cheap rip-off of Strider's deep forest, and a special main side-quest involving the undead (and possibly even Ramius).

Maddnet.com hosts Legend of the Green Dragon and the BBS L.O.R.D.
In LoGD, Maddnet Village is the home to a growing number of players that enjoy the format we use: *free for all* and *all you can play* which means there are no clans and we make available the New Day link. Using such a unique format, requires that the LoGD have lots of things to keep the players interested.
Maddnet Village will honor the veteran players with status and grant them privy to area's the common folk are not allowed access to - the more DK a player gets, the more they will see - this gives player's that play and stay even more to do.

I've only had it running for a week or so, but I'm a code fanatic and I used to love playing LORD, so as soon as I found out about LotGD I snapped it right up and got modding straight away :)

I never seem to have much free time or organisation, but I am working on server modifications, new village layout, new quests, and some other stuff.  It'll all happen eventually :)

a friend at techimo.com had set up a standard game, and a lot of the members, including me were playing it.  He ran into SQL problems, and abandoned it.  This left me sad and empty ;)
so i set up a game on my personal site, modded the heck out of it, Big props to Robert for helping me out in the beginning.  Since then, i have had quite a few dedicated players step in from around the world.  I have had a few players offer up their own mods, which i encourage, and have quite a few players who left other servers because they like mine so much.  :P

This is a pretty old thread for 2004 that is - sounds contradictory.  Anyway, I started playing Legend of the Red Dragon back in late 1994, ran my own art board in 1995 to 1996 and had LoRD up alongside Tradewars, Planets, and some other games.  It crashed when Mistigris and Kryptonus became defunct for awhile, and so I started another site dedicated to R1911, Pdm, Class, etc and had a good 1000+ players on my game at the time - all private invites mainly in the 604 area.  After retiring from running my own BBS in mid 1999, I happen upon Legend of the Green Dragon early 2004 at www.deerparkavenue.com/logd.  However, DJL went missing and Sal never answered our pleas for a new admin.  So I started my own game on September 19th and invited everyone from DPA to come over.

Since then, we have been doing a total conversion of the game.  It's called "Heroes of Ironthorne Keep".  The story and name of the conversion is based on another game I am working on with the company I work with.  You can check us out at www.freepgs.com/azura/lotgd

::And finally puts up the banner of HoIK::

Well, I was looking to give something back to the online community after playing on other peoples servers for some many years, starting off playing MUDs on my "state of the art" 14400 modem! I came across the planeshift project (www.planeshift.it) and was going to host a planeshift server. I needed something to test my webserver and database so I started a LOtGD game after finding out about it on mmorgps.com. One day I'll run a planeshift game as well, but I've enjoyed creating my LOtGD server so much it's inspired me to start coding my own game, and have my site running as many open source games as I can. You can check us out at http://planeshift.co.uk

I miss my 2400 baud modem.

My server is still in development, and I'm getting close to opening it to the public.  Now I'm looking for some staff, and a few beta testers.  I plan on implementing the World Map and Questing system to a great extent on this server, but I'm waiting for the World Map to be a bit more stable first..

So yeah, I looked at the top of this page and noticed my horribly outdated post (outdated information, URL and whatnot). So, here is my second shot at this... hope I get it right. ;)

Server Name: Kitsune Crossing or KC
URL: http://kitsunecrossing.com
Basic Information:
  • PvPs: 3
  • 500 Gold to Start
  • 3 Gamedays per Real Day
  • No Transfer of Gold
  • 30 Forest Fights + Donation Fights
  • Custom Modding by Chris Vorndran (yours truly)
  • Roleplaying Server with Classic (Central) Vets: JackZackson, Sichae, Thalia etc.
  • Tens of storylines going on at the same time... I think. =P
Stop on by and have some fun! (Yeah, this is pretty much lifted from my Central posting).

;D

GemDust runs tournaments of fixed length. Right now the active tourney is the Pink Halloween server which begins on October 15, but players can sign up now to get used to the place and reach level 15. The dragon will not be in the cave until October 15.

Pink is a 30 day tourney, 10 turns per game day, 1 day per 24 hours, so this is a relaxed pace tourney, but remember that most of the Esoterra modules are quite generous. The tournament has a prize of 1000 donator points for any future tourney.

http://gemdust.com/pink/

The other frequently run tourneys are Blue (Chillout relaxed server, one day per 24 hours), Red (Intense server, 2 game days per 24 hours), and Purple (Typical server running mainly the core set from 1.0.6).

I also have a game in development called Darton City (in Alpha-Beta right now - its installed individual pieces are beta and mostly stable, but the overall development is still in Alpha). It is an example of a themed server and is set in a modern-day city. There are no dragons (you kill a rival gang boss instead).

Gems are replaced with stolen items such as CD players, cell phones and so on. The main currency is dollars. The "races" completed so far are gangs (Rush and Grunt). Darton City has no death for players - you are only knocked unconscious and end up in the hospital (partly constructed). Players will either have to wait there for X minutes before resurrection or pay their way out by purchasing surgery or medicine.

You can also engage in pvp while a player is logged in. You can thus be suddenly in the shades while you're busy playing ;D

Looks up at the banner satisfied of its placement and then begins to sing:
Yo ho Yo ho - Where-be Dra-gonz?
Yo ha Yo ho - Thar-Be Dra-gonz!
YoHoYoHa There she flies on up high!
YoHaYoHo Cometh down to terrorize!

Pauses a moment in lost thought and then hums a refrain while utilizing exciting hand gestures and mock fighting with his tankard of ale and finally adds,  "Come one, come all.  We're a young server with hopes of becoming an old favorite!"

Um, Craze, I might have agreed with you 100%, but there's probably a more constructive way to say it ;)

Perhaps we could point out to AdamWalke123 that the settings appeared to be so easy as to provide no challenge, and offer some suggestions on settings that would be more likely to attract, keep and challenge players?

AdamWalke123 is not the first admin to mistakenly think that giving players a lot is what they want. In fact, almost ALL players think they want that - and almost all of them would agree very quickly that getting oodles of goodies leads to very fast boredom. I think nearly all of us admins have tried "giving everything" before realising it fails. It's human nature for us to appeal to players' selfish sides by providing offers to entice them to join.

So it's not so crazy that someone would make the mistake. Better to help someone than to let them fall over as we all did - the hard way.  :)

 :)

For any other admins curious, there are a few threads talking about suggested settings and game balance. It's probably difficult to search for, but most people would probably agree that having more than 20 forest fights per day and more than 1000 gold is not necessarily unbalanced - but the higher these values get the more "bad" results you have to arrange in order to balance out the challenge aspect. 10-15 forest fights and less than 200 gold seems to be the general standard.

I try make my game as deadly as possible. Most players love a challenge whether they have 0 DK or 100 DK. It's the constant threat of death that drives them on. I've had some players eave because of it's high kill rate and some join for the same reason.

My wife has been playing LotGD on about a dozen servers over the past couple years. (Her most common screen names are Kelaina and Koira.) I was starting a website dedicated to keyboard games over the 'Net - mostly Diplomacy, PBEM and RPGs, but MUDs have always fascinated me too. A year later, my site is still pretty spartan, but I'm proud to name Legend of the Green Dragon among the games I host.

Home: http://www.asciiking.com
LotGD: http://lotgd.asciiking.com

I run my own Linux host with a commercial connection (no ToS violations to run a server), an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3400+ with disk space to spare, but the system and I could both use more memory. ;-)

can't we all?  ;D

welcome and may your domain fill with even more rewarding games so it doesn't remain spartan!

This lotgd is only 3 months old with only 200 members. We want many people to have fun. Therfore we have set the game days to 2 hours with many possibilities to advance. However, let it be known it will not be as easy as you think. With the AI increasing everytime you increase its impossible to get out of danger. We have created a city for the Gods in the Realm called "Mount Olympus" and also slaying the penguin. Many new things comes all the time. There are many great clans there, but out of all the most greatest clan of them all is "United Imperiel Kingdom". It is recommeded to use firefox when using the website.

I finally actually set up a server.

I'll be using this to help me code, so it might break now and again.

I've been told it's fast as well.

My new realm is finally complete!

http://lurklotgd.net

Beware though: a lot(90% or more) of the themed stuff are people and things from an irc channel (#lurk@irc.irchighway.net) so you may not know who people or things are if you are not familiar with the channel.

As for the server itself? I've written over a dozen modules for the almost express purpose of using on this server, and as far as i know, no other server uses some of the features of 1.1.1 as much as my server does at the moment(companions mainly)  This server also uses my new style of specialties exclusively(no old style specialties after the first dk or 2)

Stop by and check it out :)

Well, this is intresting, I came upon LoTGD about three years ago, A buddy of mine showed me to Dragonmachine, I played on there for about all of the three years where I reached over 500 DKs
just this last year I began to think that it would be pretty cool to make a server that is Rock&Roll themed, along with the Gothic life style, so I went looking for one that was like this, I came across none,
so I began learning all I could about, PHP, FTP, MySQL databases and so on,
and fanily a few months ago I put up Gothdragon, and as far as I know it is the first Rock and Roll
themed LoTGD,

http://gothdragon.com

thank you all here for the chance to learn how to run ones own game, I wouldn't have been able to learn all I know without the help of the ones on dragonprime. :)

"Gothdragon is not sutieable" should be "Gothdragon is not suitable" (suitable is spelled wrong. ;))

pretty much I was introduced to LoGD last year in october. I started leveling quickly and became #1 for about a day on a larger LoGD game (lol) until I found dragonprime and decided to make my own... rolland helped which was greatly appreciated.  ;)

Here I am about a month and a half later with a pirates themed server located here:

http://www.theforbiddenrealmrpg.com (http://www.theforbiddenrealmrpg.com)

I have some great ideas that I would like to introduce when I do find out the simplistics of coding a module for LoGD such as looting a ship in the "ocean" and having a couple of new tournament like things with swashbuckling and all that pirate stuff.

I have raised the banner of my realm from the trenches.  Over 50 veterans have returned in the first day of opening to populate the cities of the kingdom.  We're on our way back to 1500 users after nearly 2 years of inactivity.

I invite you to  - Legend of Six (http://legendofsix.com)

Dozens of exclusive modules you won't see anywhere else.

A standard day begins with:
3 PvPs
20 turns
8 hour game days

Always the latest distribution running on a dedicated server.

I have 2 games currently running.    http://wackedoutworld.org (http://wackedoutworld.org) has been running for a about a month and a half.  I had 10-20 players that played consistently but seem to have disappeared  :'(  The game is pretty much set up the way I want (there is always something I want to change) but everything seems real stable at the moment.  I have changed the dragon to a more vile creature :) (I would rather face a dragon than this fella).

The second game is http://genderbattles.com (http://genderbattles.com) and is up on a server and I am just beginning the neverending campaign of finding players.  As this game is Man vs Woman and only two clans, one for each gender, I am looking for modules that pit one against the other in some way.  Ego and stature are the main emphasis of the game as alot of gamers have the tendency to want to be the biggest and the baddest.

As a side note I would like to thank everyone who has had anything to do with giving others the opportunity to learn and experiment with LoGD.  Although I am not a programmer, I read all the code in the modules and can most of the time figure out what it is doing so I can manipulate it to what I want it to do.  If I cannot figure it out I search the forums and read what others have encountered.  It has been a great learning experience and hopefully I will continue to learn and grow my games.

BIG THANKS TO ALL.......... ;)

Well, I guess after a year or so of coming here, I should actually post the banner of my realm, huh? ;)

Improbable Island is a total conversion set in a post-EMP, quasi-steampunk (well, more like "RelayPunk" really) future.

=====PLOT=====

In the late 2050's, professor Joseph Hawton was given the funding and equipment required to work on his pet project, and sent to a remote island in the middle of nowhere in order to do it.  His peers at the time proclaimed him to be a genius, a revolutionary, a visionary.  When he left, they said "Thank God that obnoxious, wobbling pudding of a man is gone," went back to tinkering with space and time and promptly forgot all about him.

In the early 2070's his machine, the Constant-Value Manipulation Device, was finished.  Its objective was to subtly manipulate the fabric of space and time in order to influence the odds of any predicted event, with the ultimate aim being to provide mankind with a readily-available stream of good luck.  Cancer cells mysteriously and miraculously dying off, lightning striking in just the right place to provide power to small towns, that sort of thing.  Unfortunately Joseph was quite, quite mad by this point.  As a consequence, so was his machine.  Joseph, by now calling himself Doktor Improbable, had invented the Improbability Drive.

In 2075, a disaster involving several large electro-magnetic pulse bombs destroyed every integrated circuit on the face of the Earth, sending us back to pre-Tesla days overnight.  Every integrated circuit, that is, apart from the ones in Doktor Improbable's insane machine and its associated computers, which survived by a bizarre stroke of luck.  An expedition was mounted.  The helicopter never made it back, but the radio transcript suggests that the rotors grew little wings and flew away.  Thus began the televised War on Improbability.

=====FEATURES=====

Custom equipment with attached buffs, via the Mystical Shop module.
All custom-written races, each with at least one special ability (which works like the abilities granted by your Speciality).  Humans, zombies, kittymorphs, midgets, mutants, robots, gobots, Jokers.
Large world map.
Specialities replaced with Implants, all of which custom-written.
One-shot equipment and consumable items, custom-written from scratch.
Rich, verbose descriptions for nearly every monster.
Stamina system that allows players to continue fighting even after they've used all their turns.  But beware - the more exhausted you get, the easier it becomes to defeat you...
Sick sense of humour.

=====PLANNED FEATURES=====

Improbable Action System.  This completely does away with the values for Turns, Travel points, PvP fights and any other action that can only be done x times a day, and throws them all together into a universal bank of Stamina.  Each action has an associated Stamina cost, which reduces as you do more of that action.

Improbable Combat System.  Each creature has independant hit targets within its body (for example, if the player is fighting a humanoid monster, they'll be able to aim for the head, arms, legs or body) which have different effects upon being hit (or lopped off).  The actual combat system is already done (http://dragonprime.net/index.php?topic=9314.0) and working very nicely, it's just a right bastard trying to figure out values for all the monster I've already got!

Plot Device.  A branching plotline which will, eventually, terminate - giving the game an actual ending.

So, um, yeah.  A somewhat ambitious project, in some ways. :)

I see many terrific banners/links here.
I too started my endevours into the game administration by running various BBS program servers from PowerBBS to Synchronet. Now owning my own dedicated server I find the LOGD program to offer many opportunities to allow for personal creativity and the comaraderie found in the BBS community.

My LOGD is new but has a lot of opportunities to grow and expand.

I am looking for input on how our game can be improved and also may be picking up additional team admin assistants.

Anyone around for the old and original GothDragon? Well, after several months of recuperation, IT'S BACK, AND BETTER THAN EVER!!! Why is it better than ever you ask? It's a fresh start to bringing back the first goth themed LoGD, and we're pulling out all the stops!

Thanks to Computer Geo, GothDragon's host, ALL the old GothDragon modules have been released! And most modules created for the new GOthDragon will be released as well!

What is there to do at GothDragon? Well, along with the dark themes, which really have nothing to say about the atmosphere, we'll give you:

- 2 Hour days
- Customized Clan Forge
- Stat Transfers
- A more adult atmosphere for the mature players
- All the old races and specialties released by GothDragon's creator, Justin 'Diego' Holland, who now goes by the name of Kirby
- A new look with a new attitude; Once we upgrade to 1.1.1, a theme I customized for GothDragon personally will be set to default.

If this sounds like some fun to you, then come on down and prowl around and hunt for the Goth Dragon!

Jolly Good!

Well Ive been playing LotGD since 2004 and one day decided I should make my own so I asked the local admin where all this stuff was coming from and a bunch of other now stupid seeming questions. I was pointed here in 2007 and have been at it off and on but not to long ago I just said "I dont care what happens" and started the set-up process for LotGD. Two days and a lot of googling later I had a site. Now Im in the process of bettering my knowledge so I can give a better LotGD to players. Sorry if I got a bit off topic.

Well my lotgd server is themed to Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series, with Oblivion being the patron title. A few highlights:

1) I am developing custom Templates to go with the Elder Scrolls theme
2) All the great attention to detail that comes with an Elder Scroll
3) A players Forum for discussion (blogs coming)
4) Active and attentive staff
5) Very few rules to go with Oblivions mature theme
6) I will be the first to install the new Provinces module that is under development
7) I am installing as many modules as I can (Without getting errors, I stop and fix each and every time so they dont mount up) and they will all be translated to theme very delicately
8)I view keeping the purity of the theme as the most important part of the game so 99% of text will be translated

These are just a few with more to come so stand tall under the banner of Oblivion Ways and the Empire of Tamriel today!  ;D

So will you fight to uphold the honor of the empire or will you battle for the freedom of your province from the imperialist power?

*Raises the war standard of the Emperor*

Yay, 3rd LoGD

Now that I'm more confident in coding, I've started a server that will hopefully not break

Trimentia Vortex is currently undergoing its BETA stages, and I'm wanting people to help me test it out. Things are being updated daily and I hope to have it fully operational as a full site by July

All I'm gonna say is that it is a Sci-Fi/Fantasy Mix, taking old myths and twisting them around

Stephen Walks over and stakes a large banner into the ground, one that is tattered and torn slightly

I would like to invite you to the Isle of the Dead. In this isle there is death aplenty and disease as well.. Nearly no one lives for a long time at the island but maybe if you can kill off all of the zombies and undead there, hope may be at grapsing length! I warn you that this place is not for the weak stomached. I hope to see you there and I will try my hardest to help you in any way. Good luck my friends

Steph, I think you might wanna remove this, as this link no longer works, and mayhaps you should post the new link to the new iDead?

Hi,

I have a server running at http://www.sevenravens.dynip.com/myweb/lotgd/ (http://www.sevenravens.dynip.com/myweb/lotgd/) and am current;y using it as a way to learn PHP.  I have a version of the game on another computer, where I study it, and am beginning to develop new code for it.  I enjoy the game and look forward to learning php while modding the game.

Sorry, somehow I mis-typed that link.  It is corrected now.  Currently, this is a developing server.  I am in the process of testing modules and game balance issues, and studying the code.  I would appreciate it if people would check it out to see if they spot any issues early on.

I am hoping to get a lot of people to hit the server around the same time, to test how well the hardware works.  I was thinking of setting up this test on either august 29th at 9-10 pm EST, or September 5th, the same time.  I don't expect long-term players on those dates (Although that would be cool), but am just looking for volume at one time.

I am currently writing up the background history and story elements, and will be adding these as I finish them.  Future module development will focus around adding to the basic story.

Been working on modules, testing and debugging.  I was wondering, do many people like the bladder, chow, or odor options in the game.  I have them enabled, and have been trying to figure out if it's worth balancing them.  Currently, it seems that they rise too quickly, so I dropped them some.  I find them entertaining, but I was thinking the average player may just be annoyed with the extra responsibility of monitoring these.

I don't know how widely used those modules are.  They make for a neat idea, although the few times I remember playing on servers that had them I found them to be a little bit of a pain.  But...different players enjoy different experiences.

Survey your players, trial the modules, play with settings, and perhaps consider modifications to them for a change in gaming experience.

I'm just updating mine and then I'll release it shortly.

Having to add a bunch of stuff to make it more user friendly. However, if you want to have a different text layout or change the image size (468x60) then you'll have to edit the script by hand.

Let me go open a discussion thread for it...

I implemented them and took them out almost immediately. They seemed to bore and frustrate my players which is sort of not what I was going for. I kept a modified chow thingy by having rations that people can eat to restore hit points.

This realm is highly RP-Based, including a story and a world in which it is set.
In short, a young woman, Pandora, receives a closed box and is told not to open it. However, her curiosity gets the best of her and she opens it, setting evil free into the world. Not only was evil locked inside the box, but it also contained the banished God of the Underworld, who is out for his revenge.

A Song of Ice and Fire are a series of novels written by George R. R. Martin, and I'm sure some of you know it better as the HBO Series Game of Thrones.

I noticed that the page that the link links to says 'To play, please click on the folder beneath that says "Lotgd-1.1.2-DragonPrime_Edition"'..

Just a suggestion, but for the link to automatically redirect to the homepage for easier access, just upload everything in the 'lotgd-1.1.2-DragonPrime_Edition' folder to the public_html folder of your server.

For future references, if you plan on having an account for back-up admin purposes, I can't advise keeping it with that name, as if whoever manages to get on your casual account, has an IQ higher than their shoe size, they'll look for such things, and keep you from getting in that way.

However, you can always change that from the DB itself, and just change the hashcode :P.

I know I'm not a moderator, but I'm pretty sure that http://dragonprime.net/index.php?topic=12170.0 (http://dragonprime.net/index.php?topic=12170.0) is still in effect. We are here to be supportive of others. Not to goad others into fights. Not to try and stir the pot with others. We are here to support each other, and help each other

Correct.  Now if I have to waste any more of my time removing playground drama posts, I will also be handing out time-outs to the authors of those posts.

There's so many separate fandoms sites based on different franchises - what would happen if they were all combined into one site? A city for every fandom? A city for those who don't want to be in a fandom?

Fandom Kingdom
An all-fandoms-encompassing LoGD, with an upcoming and completely different leveling system to what you're used to on LoGDs... No more dragon, no more masters, no more dying! Instead, you get to colonize the world! With so many unique features, are you really playing LoGD?

Journey to Albion, a land beset by powerful warring Kingdoms, Monsters and Magical Beasts. Travel freely from the luxurious Kingdom of Camelot in the South to the forlorn and wind-swept wastes of the Shadowlands to the North. Dark forces seek to breach the veil between worlds and bring deadly power into Albion; will you aid or hinder these Dark powers? A fragile peace holds the country together, but the time is fast approaching when all will soon have to choose a side.
