Title: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kala on August 19, 2006, 11:50:20 PM
This module set, includes

A online pvp battle arena

A online pvp magical arena

Players can register and challenge each other, online.

Time out settings, and cancelled battle settings included in the code.

  • Any player who is loosing and times out mid battle, will incur a loss point, and their opponent awarded a win.  To discourage the 'Oh I'm loosing, can't have that on my stats' mind set lol.
  • 3 minute time out, if other player hasn't moved in that time.

Also has its own set of database tables.

There may be one or two bugs, but its been tested pretty extensively.

This set doesn't allow the use of buffs.

However, the Magical Arena has its own set of potions that players can collect the ingredients and mix in the clan halls to give them added atk/def/hp in this arena, or to decrease their opponents.  14 potions in all, and creating more of them, will increase their strength.  20 potions = 1 level gain in potion making.

Potions book in bio's for players, once they've created a potion correctly, the recipe will appear there.

Also includes, 3 forest specials..

A set of notes comprise the Magic Arena forest special, giving the players half a potion mix at a time.

Witch Garden for the collection of 4 of the 5 ingredients

This special also includes an affect on fortune if the module clanforge is active.

edit: Witch Garden now contains the 5th ingredient as a random event.  RQ is not needed, but there for those who want it.

Rainbow Quest for the collection of the 5th ingredient

Multilayered special, where the players must choose certain things to get to the end.  Basically chasing a Leprechaun across the forest, into different area's.  Players choices will effect what happens to them.  Many creatures to battle, and all is not as it seems.  There is a admin setting so the bracelet needed to activate the charms for permanent atk/def is dk reliant.

and now a Village Special:

Wiseman - gives players hints on how the magic arena, potions and ingredients work, along with one basic potion mix.

Any code fixes, please state which arena its for, the PVP or the Magic.  Thanks

The Dragon Queen forest special can be added to this one to supplement one of the ingredients.

Downloadable here: http://dragonprime.net/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=639

Please note if you do not have the clan forge installed, they will not be able to sell/buy nor mix potions and ingredients for the magical arena..

Works thanks. I'll let my users test all that ^^. I've searched a long time for a pvp arena

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Obi_Wan on August 24, 2006, 03:45:57 AM
One of my users tested it now. He registered for a fight but he said he didn't fight anyone and the arena says:

"Current Arena Champion: Page Lordi" which is the user who tested it.

And a feature request from me: Can you do something so the current champion is displayed on the login page?

O.o That would be nice. Thanks to Kala for creating this!

Post by: Grace on August 24, 2006, 03:06:39 PM
I don't know if this has happened for anyone else, but I'm trying this out on my test server and it's not quite working.  Character A challenges Character B and right away is told that Character B timed out.  However, Character B now has the option to go into the Arena.  Once they fight once, they are stuck because there is only a Refresh link, not a link to go anywhere else.  And Character A doesn't have an option to fight at all, since they were told that their request was declined due to a time out.

If there's something that I did wrong, please let me know.  I really think this module is neat and I'd love to be able to get it up on my game for my players. :) Thank you!

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kala on August 24, 2006, 10:02:18 PM
Nope, something I done wrong ..

should all be fixed.. and one point, I did add a failsafe to the pvp arena, where a player cannot challenge their own alt.  It selects players registered to challenge, without the same ip or id value.  Have just added this to the magic arena.

However, if you wish to enable this (use of alts in arena's)

remove lines 1151 and 1152 in arena/magicarena.php
and lines 126 and 127 in arena/arena.php

i like it and my players does too. Outstanding job :)

Is there a way where on the login page there could be a champion like who has the most PvP kills in the Hof for the PVP Arena and Magical Arena?

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Lord Zeus on August 25, 2006, 12:37:37 PM
i think i might of found something.

It appears everytime in the PVP Arena who ever challenges loses and who ever accepts wins, no matter what the DK's, Hp,atk and def is

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Grace on August 25, 2006, 01:19:05 PM
Loving this!  But if I could suggest one thing - Would it be possible to add in a link to give up the fight?  The player could choose to just take the loss and let the other player have the win point. Sometimes if the players are too even in stats against each other, it takes a LONG time to finish the fight with just hitting each other for 1 or 2 points, or missing.

But we're all really really enjoying the arena. :)

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kala on August 25, 2006, 08:19:21 PM
Yeah, not a bad idea Grace :)

I'll see if I can add something like that over the next few days :)

and I'll see if I can get an additional setting in there for those that want to show the current champions on the login screen :)

The sql to select the champion, will show the first registered person as the champion, until someone battles in there..

i see in the clan forge the nav "potions"

but, i want to add the nav in the clan hall and not in the clan forge.

plz modifii the module for me.

--> noy in the clan forge but in the clan hall

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kala on August 26, 2006, 07:07:37 AM
I have recoded so it appears in the clan halls.. I've attached the file magicarena here, this file goes in the modules folder.

Edit:  Having spoken to Lord Zeus in IM.. I believe his problem is caused due to the huge amounts of atk/def some of his players have.  As the formula is a sliding scale, based on both fighters atk/def, any atk/def over about 2000 will adversly affect this module and the fights in it.

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: trapeur on August 27, 2006, 07:28:12 AM
thank, i want another thing.

My membre wants to upgrade the time of  3 minutes to 5 minutes.

plz, say to me how can i do this.

+

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kala on August 27, 2006, 08:30:48 AM
you're welcome :)

ok to upgrade from 3 mins to 5 mins..

in arena/arena.php change lines 257, 315 and 477 and in arena/magicarena.php lines 1251, 1307 and 1608 from:

Code:
$time = date("Y-m-d H:i:s",strtotime("-180 seconds"));

to

Code:
$time = date("Y-m-d H:i:s",strtotime("-300 seconds"));

though one word of advice.. 5 minutes is an awful long time to refresh a screen if your opponent doesn't do anything, 3 minutes is usually quite long enough, one feature of this, they can't go 'buff' themselves up with hp etc as it sets the stats when the challenge is made :)

Is there a specific folder the files should go in?

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: KenMasters on August 28, 2006, 05:34:03 AM
What smart person came up with this "rainbow quest"? It's great!  ;D Congratz. Any way you could hook the bracelet into the equipment shop?

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kala on August 28, 2006, 05:38:47 AM
No Trapeur.. unfortunately you can't buy ingredients.. am possibly thinking of a player based market system, allowing them to trade the ingredients.. but sometime in the future (am quite busy coding new stuff for my Wheel of Time themed lotgd site I just started)..

Ken, all my idea.. took me ages to write lol... anyways, the bracelet is specific to that module, and really wouldn't fit into any other module.. All it does is activate the charms, so they count as atk/def on dragonkill :)

The files go as unzipped into the modules folder.. So maintain folder integrity..

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP

I keep getting a blank page when I visit the Battle Arena.

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kala on August 28, 2006, 05:53:27 AM
check that the folder arena exists within the modules folder, and that it contains both arena.php and magicarena.php

file structure is:

arena.php
magicarena.php
arena/arena.php
arena/magicarena.php

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: KenMasters on August 28, 2006, 06:00:03 AM
Did that......

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare arena_getmoduleinfo() in /home3/dangerd/public_html/dragon/modules/arena/arena.php on line 6

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kala on August 28, 2006, 06:04:56 AM
I suggest, you redownload and unzip the files maintaining folder integrity and reupload them.. that looks to me as if you have placed the main module file in the arena folder.. not the arena/arena.php file.. yes they both have the same name, however, if you maintain folder integrity you should not get this problem.

aaah.. eh, I guess in a way, I believe clans are a big part of the game.. well my perception of it. So I like to include things that clans can do together, or be able to help each other out with.  Encourages team spirit and that sort of thing.

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: SexyCook on September 06, 2006, 12:34:38 PM
There seem to be some bugs here and there still, but my players have had some fun testing this module. Yet, after 15 minutes not hitting each other I had to change the formulas to the the damage on both arena and magical arena to:
Quote
$dam = round(10*(($opanew-$atknew)*0.89)*(($opdnew-$defnew)*0.12))+1;

Now they are doing around 0-3 damage at dk 0, levels 5 and 6, still with quite a bunch of misses but with a large increase in 1 damage point. I'll have to keep track of the damage, probably add the dk of the players to it, but in it's original form:

Quote
$dam = round((($opanew-$atknew)*0.89)*(($opdnew-$defnew)*0.12));

most values average each other and dam==0 results.

another thing:

Quote
      case "village":
         if ($session['user']['location'] == get_module_setting("arenaloc"))
   (...)
         if ($pvpreg==1 || $magicreg==1){
             tlschema($args['schemas']['gatenav']);
             addnav($args['gatenav']);
               tlschema();
             output("You have been challenged");
             addnav("`b`#Arena Challenge`b", "runmodule.php?module=arena&op=challenged");
You get a "you have been challenged" message if you're registered in the arenas? A player of mine is stuck in a loop here and... well, keeps winning the same battle all over again 'cause the other player has already logged out. As far as I can see, there's no variable in the SQL/arena table to state if a battle has been done or not.

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kala on September 06, 2006, 11:52:41 PM
Yeh, I haven't added a variable to the db table to say a battle is concluded...

Also it would really help me out in tracking down these problems, if you would Please, tell me which of the two arena's it is.

however, as all the prefs reset either at the conclusion of a battle or in the village, I haven't run across this before, as I said, please let me know which of the two arena's this challenge involves.

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: SexyCook on September 07, 2006, 12:52:44 AM
It was the magic arena, but had probably something to do with an unset variable on a previous challenge, where the player challenged someone else, who logged out. He couldn't get out of the arena after several minutes, so I just repaired the nav, without setting or unsetting any vars.

Anyway, because Maeher kept annoying me about bugs in this module, I've now deactivated it and gave it to him to debug *muahahaha*.

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kala on September 07, 2006, 02:36:12 AM
yup, that would do it, always reset the registered preference to 2 :) otherwise the others won't reset :)

I have a few players asking for this, but I have been waiting for an update to this to allow either participant in a battle to surrender...or a turn limit as far as number of turns to then call a draw...because I got into this with another very high-level character once, and we were in battle over 1/2 hour with no winner yet, and no way to really concede - or declare a draw or something.

It just takes too darn long to kill someone when you are both high-level and evenly matched.

Can something be done about this problem?

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP

Sorry to contradict what you're saying, but I would find that fun, cause eventually you'd lose, I mean unless your stats were some where in the 99999, than yes that would take forever but who's fault is that for setting their stuff too high, not only that I'd want to play it all the way through and see who won.  :)

it is not a matter of setting too high, it is simply a mechanic of the game that the player becomes more powerful with each successive DK.  if ye have slain alot of dragons, ye are going to hath a character that kicks butt.

i think her suggestion is rather practical.  having a way to declare a draw is a way to end a fight that would otherwise consume far more time than many hath available to use.

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kalisiin on November 27, 2006, 04:00:27 PM
Exactly, Elessa.
You wanna get stuck for half an hour, that's your business, Zacharei.  you wanna have all your time eaten up so that you end up losing forest fights and stuff, your business.

I think that the best way to do it would be to have the challenged player be allowed to set a time limit, choices being say, five minutes, ten minutes, or no limit.  If the challenged player selected a time limit, and that time was reached...the winner would be declared by - who knocked the most hitpoints off who in the allotted time (or number of rounds might be fairer...to prevent a player who's winning from stalling to eat up the clock.)

Boxing matches don't always end in a KO, sometimes the winner is declared by points, so why not our Gladator Arena.

It could be set up so that either the CHALLENGED party who accepts sets the number of rounds - or, the CHALLENGER does, and the challenged then could accept or reject based on that information.

In addition, there could be a button available for limitless fights for either player to voluntarily surrender and give the other player the win.

This would make the module much better.  That way, someone like me would have what I want...and Zacharei can waste his whole day on one PvP fight, and we are both happy.

Kala has been very busy lately with her work schedule, and hasn't been online very much. So I don't know when she will have the time be able to do anything to this module...
Just letting you know so you know it might not be anytime real soon before any changes are made.
 ;)

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: zachattack on November 27, 2006, 05:21:07 PM
Sorry lol, I guess when you put it that way it does make sense, but I still thinking a tie, isn't as good as actual winning, so why not have a leave the battle, and continue it later, or something... Sorry about that. Didn't mean to sound rude.

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Kalisiin on November 27, 2006, 07:19:37 PM
Tis okay, Raven...and Kala.  I'm not in a rush.  just wanted to put this idea out there, because some of my players DO want this module, and I have told them that, once the requested changes are made, so that some battles don't last half an hour, I'd be happy to then upload the Module.

Some folks who don't know better would be awful upset if their game time got eaten up with one PvP battle.  I know I would be - here I go and accept a challenge, thinking, okay, two or three minutes, we'll see who's better than who....and it ends up eating up half an hour, and denies me thus the ability to finish out my forest fights and stuff, I would be really, really upset.

I don't want any of my players getting sucked into that trap.

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: zachattack on December 01, 2006, 12:01:32 AM
oh lol It was 30 minutes, Oh well that's a difference... Even though I'd want to see who would want to win, I wouldn't wnat to waste my whole time in a battle, that's like that I'd like a draw, so I could go on wiht my day to day stuff, or leave and come back when I'm stronger to beat that person.

Post by: Kalisiin on February 16, 2007, 09:00:56 PM
hope things are okay with your recovery, Kala....just wanted to make a couple of suggestions in case they got buried in here...

1 - a way to set, in advance, the number of battle rounds (the winner being whoever knocks more hitpoints off the other in the allotted number of rounds)

2 - a way to select a "to the death" battle if that is what is wanted, along with a warning to the challenged player about how long it might actually take.

3. a way for both players to mutually end fight - match either draw...or who knocked the most off whom.

4. a way for a player who has had enough to simply forfeit.

5....if possible, instead of a number of rounds...a settable time limit.

In any event, the information about rounds/time limit would be sent, along with the challenge, to the challenged player, who could then accept or reject the challenge, based on any reason they might wish - but they would then go in knowing it may well be a very long undertaking.

Yes.  The package includes a Witches' Cottage you run across in the forest, and you get the ingredients from her.
You also find half-sheets of paper with potion recipes and you have to figure out which halves go with which other halves, to make a complete recipe.

Title: Re: Arena - Online PVP
Post by: Pilzekind on May 25, 2007, 01:45:22 AM
I fixed it...
And now its like that:
When two players finished a battle, and they want to fight again, the battle is at exactly this point, where the old battle was...

I've added a few things to this pack

1. Wiseman special to give players hints relating to the magic arena

2. Increased the formula in the battles to speed them up

3. Increased the amounts of ingredients dropped in witchgarden and rainbow quest

Still to come

- ability to hold player based tournaments (eventually leading into clan team tournaments)

- forest drop ingredients

- quit battle early with loss penalty

NB: None of my players have reported any bugs with the above addons, nor with battling in either arena..

There is missing row in the file. Around like 43 the code should be:

Code:

        );
        return $info;
}

The first closing parenthesis is missing.

I've just revamped the battle code itself.. And will add the complete update to the uploads section shortly.  This fixes the length of battles in the arena's.  Most shouldn't take more than about 3 - 5 mins now (if that) instead of the lengthy matches.

Added ability to buy any ingredients sold in the clan halls.

I'm still working on tournaments (about half way through that particular code for automating them).

Also working on revamping the magical arena portion, so the potions affects last varying rounds (similar to buffs).

Thanks Danbi.. how I missed that I have no idea.. :-S lol

Please note if you do not have the clan forge installed, they will not be able to sell/buy nor mix potions and ingredients for the magical arena..

Clan Forge avail here: http://dragonprime.net/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=996

*lost a lot of files when I moved last year, and didn't realise I'd overwritten that section in the files I do have, I'll update so the potion mixing etc appears in the clan halls sometime over the weekend, again my apologies for this*

Maybe make that a required module on install? ;)

As I said in my previous post I'll fix it over the weekend, in 4 days.. it will no longer be required then.. ;)

Would it still be wise to have the clan forge installed anyway?

And it is ok to have the Battle Arena installed along with this, right?

For now, unless you don't want them to use the magical arena, the forge is required

I haven't used the Battle Arena, as far as I know it should be ok, but only by actually trying it would you truly find out.

I found a bug.
Code:
#
#-----[ FILE ]-----
#
modules/witchgarden.php

#
#-----[ FIND ]-----
#
# Note: >=5 not >-5
#
if ($session['user']['turns']<5){
$session['user']['turns']=0;
}elseif ($session['user']['turns']>-5){
$session['user']['turns']-=5;
}

#
#-----[ REPLACE WITH ]-----
#
$session['user']['turns']-=5;
if ($session['user']['turns']<0){
$session['user']['turns']=0;
}

#
#-----[ END ]-----
#

         }

I know this is an old thread, but I've been having bugs with the Arena. My users have been unable to accept challenges, which I haven't been able to reproduce.

However, when I fight one of my mods in battle I crush her with 12 million points. Literally. Any ideas?

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but I didnt see it in any of the previous posts. Has the option been added to show the top player on the login page?

And what about mixing potions not within the clan forge but within a kind of potions class? Just a suggestion. Best, WW

This is a possibility of being done, however, not by myself atm.. I don't have access to a computer and haven't written any code for about 9 years.  If however I decide to get back into coding I will take a look and see whether this is possible without a complete rewrite and I would also have to make it compatible for the current version of the game.

Regards

Kala

Seems to me the place the navigation shows could simply be changed.

Not sure.

As it is now, one must be a member of a clan to even do potions at all.  It does not allow for unaffiliated players to mix potions at all.

Just a thought.

I'm totally not used with coding. But if you could brew the potions in a kind of potion class besides the clan forge (on some games, the clans are replaced by houses), the clan forge issue possibly could be solved? I'm not sure if this is a navigation thing, perhaps a more experted coder could be of any help? But I surely liked your module, especially because of the collecting ingredients thing, and for the quest +potion brewing. Perhaps the potion book could end up in a kind of library =personal book case or book shelf? And if I may suggest another thing: why not making the halfs of the notes collectibles as well? I would let the user collect these note snippets and put them on the library table. As long as the notes aren't put in this safe place, they can be stolen by a creature. Thanks for considering. Best, WW
