Title: Give proper credit
Post by: Talisman on April 09, 2004, 02:53:08 PM
It has been brought to the Admin's attention that someone (you know who you are) has been making minor modifications (if any) and removing author credit info from the work of others, then uploading them here in a shared folder.

This practice will not be tolerated!

As a reminder:
1.  If the mod is not yours, DO NOT UPLOAD IT.
2.  If you modify somebody else's work, you MUST retain all previous author information/credits/version info.
3.  If you're not sure what the upload rules are, read the FAQ or IM me.
4.  Failure to follow these common sense rules and ethics will result in the suspension of forum access/privileges.

Is this me?   :'( I ask only becuase of the robbank mod that I posted with my evildeeds mod. I did not make this  mode (as stated in the readme in the zip) however I did make changes to this file (about 10 or so). Other than my mods it has all the information info in it that it had when I got the file.

I only ask because I want to follow all rules, and I am very new to modding LoGD.

Nope, wasn't you, Matt - I've been in contact with the individual.

Your files look fine, well documented (from my perspective, anyhow).

As .0.9.8 moves along, perhaps it's time to BUMP up an old thread.

That's a good call, Strider.

I'm very new at this and I tend to use a lot of code from other people as examples as part of the learning process but even though that's what it is, I try to note every step I make along the way.  Whenever I'm able (and my natural air-headedness allows), I provide full credit for even the tiniest morsel of code and I link back to the location I got the original script from and site exact names for examples.

I think this is only fair because these are incredible coders but I don't just think it's about that, personally.  From a personal standpoint I like to know where I came from, who helped me out, those that were influencial and even where I picked up particular coding or structural habits from.

It's things like that that really make up the essence of community.  There're no zeroes in one, nor are there any I's.  In fact, it was this about the LoGD community that kept me around, really.  It'd do well for us all to remember, so that's a nice reminder to see on the side over there.

So indeed, good call.  *Nod.*  I hope we gain many new members along the way, I know they'll only be treated with respect from experience so I too will hope that they remember to give credit where credit is due, as I shall ~ and hopefully have.
